After a little over five hours of driving, we arrived at Quinn's house. As we pulled into the driveway, I was in awe at how massive his house was. All of this space for one man? I would be overwhelmed living in a house this size by myself.
"Holy shiiiiit, talk about having money." Andreis peered at the house.
I nodded my head in agreement. "I could get lost in there." I said in disbelief.
"Not on my watch." Andreis winked at me, stepping out of the SUV, running over to Tarak, who was grabbing boxes and placing them on the step.
I got out of the SUV, and started grabbing boxes when I felt a hand on my shoulder.
"You don't need to do that sweetheart. We got this from here." Deene smiled at me, taking a box from me.
"I want to help though. I'm not going to sit around doing nothing." I told him.
Hands wrapped around my waist as Tarak lifted me up and over his shoulders.
"PUT ME DOWN TARAK!" I gasped, surprised.
"We are going to your room princess, let the boys do the heavy duty work, eh?" Tarak ran up the stairs and into the house, as I banged my hands on his back.
As we arrive at the foot of the steps, Tarak turned left, and opened a door. Placing me back down, I looked around my new room. It was definitely more plainer than my room in Shediac. Here, the walls were white, back home my walls were a lilac colour. Nonetheless, it felt cozy. I walked towards the window and peered out. I could see a playground, where children ran and laughed, as a boy chased them around. I smiled to myself. I had already started to fall in love with our new house.
I began to unpack my things, trying to make this dull room brighter than it was before. I took out a picture frame with my mother, father, my four brothers, and I posing at the Kouchibouguac National Park in New Brunswick. That was the perk of our summers, getting away from everything and everyone, just our family to keep us company. I was only ten years old in this picture, but I remember the trip so vividly.
I closed my eyes, thinking of all of the fond memories our family had together. I placed the picture frame on my bed side table. We all looked so happy in this picture.
"How are you adjusting so far, Aud? I know Andreis wasn't impressed by travelling to Maine, but I'm glad to have all of my siblings with me again." Quinn stood in the doorway, his eyebrows furrowed as he watched my face for a reaction. That was Quinn, he had always needed reassurance that he was doing the right thing.
"I'm in love with this place already Q, I cannot thank you enough for bringing us here to live with you. I couldn't ask for a better brother." I spoke in a sincere tone. He walked over to me and placed his hand on my shoulder.
"You know I would do anything for you princess. I'm glad to have you as a sister. You keep the boys grounded whenever trouble arises. You have no idea how much we love you. You have no idea how much mum and dad loved you. You were their baby girl." Quinn blinked away his tears, looking down at me, smiling. I brushed his tears away, wrapping my arms around his waist.
"I need to go to the hospital around 5:00pm. I want you and your brothers downstairs in the living room so I can explain to you which high school you will be going to. You have the weekend to relax, and then it's school on Monday, yeah?" I nodded in agreement as Quinn broke the hug, walking towards the doorway.
"Five minutes and be downstairs everyone!" I could hear Quinn banging at the boys doors.
Down in the living room sat my four brothers, as they all waited patiently for me to make my way downstairs.
"Damn well took you long enough." Andreis yawned, looking at his watch.
"Shut up Andreis." I rolled my eyes as I sat on the chesterfield opposite of my brothers.
"Behave you two ... I don't want to come home to complete chaos." Quinn paused before continuing.
"The school has you already registered. You start on Monday, with the school only being a 20 minute walk, I suggest that Deene, Andreis, and Audrielle take the car together, yeah." We all nod in agreement.
"Isn't there a school bus that could pick me up? I wouldn't mind taking the bus to and from school, it'll help me settle in." I said, waiting for a response from Quinn.
Quinn shook his head.
"Until you are comfortable with your new location, I would prefer you stick with your brothers, Aud." Quinn looked to the boys for agreement, they nodded.
I rolled my eyes and crossed my arms against my chest.
"You can order food, there's fast food pamphlets in the drawer in the kitchen. I'm not entirely sure how long I'll be at the hospital, but I'll call once I know everything." Quinn grabbed his keys from the table and started to head out the door before looking back at the five of us.
"Behave." Quinn glared at us before shutting the door.
"What a buzz kill man." Andreis quickly arose from the chesterfield, heading towards the door.
"Where the hell are you going? Tarak raised his eyebrows.
"Finding myself some fine women, you coming?" Andreis smirked. He sickened me some days.
"Oui oui. Can't say no to such an amazing offer." Tarak ran towards the door.
"Deene, you good here?" Tarak was hanging off of the door, a grim smile on his face.
"Do I have a choice, dick? Go." Deene grumbled.
"I'm not a fucking child. If you want to get your dick wet, then GO. I'll unpack the rest of my room." I started up the stairs.
"You sure, Aud?" Deene yelled up the steps.
"Oh, I'm 100% positive. Go have fun, you deserve it." I sounded as sincere as I could.
"I'll text you to make sure you're alright. I'm leaving $40 for food! You're the best. Love you sis." I heard Deene slam the door shut.
Sitting in this huge house by myself ... home sweet home, I guess.
