Opposites Attract (A Velvet and Yatsuhashi Fanfiction)

Velvet: Self-Defense

Velvet stretched, her ears twitching excitedly as she and her team walked to the tournament training grounds that had been set up. 

A pack of second years walked by, snickering in Velvet's direction. The girl brushed it off and walked into the grounds behind her friends.

Coco clapped her hands together. "Okay, CFVY! The Vytal Tournament is less than a week away from starting, and I plan to get in as many training hours as I can!"

Her team nodded, and Coco turned to Velvet. "You can be my sparring partner, I'm planning on going easy on you three today."

Velvet giggled and did a little mock salute. "Thanks, chief!"

Yatsuhashi and Fox went over to another ring and faced off. 

Coco tapped Velvet's shoulder lightly and laughed. "You know, you can stop staring at your partner any day now."

Velvet blushed. "I wasn't staring. Let's get started."

They faced off, and Velvet created a copy of Fox's weapon, which she worked better with. Coco unclipped her box from her belt and smiled. "Let's start, then."

Velvet jumped into the air, swinging her blades at Coco. The brunette blocked and swung the box at Velvet's back.

She saw it coming and backflipped under it, slicing it upwards and out of Coco's hands. Her teammate grinned. "Nice! But I'm not done yet!"

Coco cartwheeled past Velvet, blocking all the well-placed slashes the bunny sent her way. Velvet barely blocked as Coco grabbed her box, jumped upright, and swung at Velvet. The pressure was hard to keep blocked, and it didn't help when Coco turned her box into a machine gun and blasted her teammate backwards.

Velvet landed on her back, and saw Coco holding out her hand right beside her.

"Nice work! We've both improved!"

Velvet smiled and dissolved the blades, taking Coco's hand. She jumped to her feet, and saw Yatsuhashi helping Fox to his feet.

Coco clapped loudly. "All right! We can be done for today if you want."

Yatsuhashi nodded. "We don't have classes for this week, so we can relax."

Velvet's scroll buzzed in her pocket, and she took it out and looked at the message.

Hey, Velvet. I see your friends have stood up for you again, especially Yatsuhashi. It would be a shame if something were to happen to him. Accidents happen every day.

She looked at the number, and her heart dropped. Cashmere, one of the girls who bullied her. 

Velvet texted her back. Cashmere. Don't hurt my partner, and I won't hurt you.

Cashmere was quick to reply. Please. You couldn't hurt me even if you tried.

What do you want?

I want you to come to the edge of the Emerald Forest as soon as possible. Otherwise, during the Vytal Tournament, something might happen to hurt your precious teammate.

Velvet gasped and put away her scroll. "I have to go."

Yatsuhashi looked at her with concern. "What? Where would you have to go?"

Velvet winced. "Yatsu, I...I just have to go. To meet...a friend. I'm sorry, I'll be back soon."

She turned and ran towards the forest without a glance back.

They were waiting for her, smirks on their faces.

Cashmere laughed. "You know, I gotta say, Velv, didn't think you'd really come."

Her 'sidekick' Esmeralda snickered. "Guess she really cares about him, huh?"

Velvet clenched her fists. "What do you want with me?"

Cashmere rolled her eyes. "Oh, calm down. We just wanted to talk."

Velvet brought her hand to her box, but before she could do anything, it was shot off of her belt. Esmeralda smirked and put away her pistol, and Cashmere cartwheeled behind Velvet, who readied her fists.

She didn't even get a chance to fight. Esmeralda ran to a launching plate, and Cashmere landed a kick to Velvet's stomach, sending her flying into the plate. The last thing she saw before she was launched was Esmeralda's smirking face as she pressed her foot down.
