Chapter Three

Adelyn scrambled out of the cave and began jogging the general direction Crystal went. What if I don't find her? Fuck.

She just made it back into the tree line when

Thud!

"What? Who-"

"Shush, you don't want them to hear you, now, do you?" A familiar voice said, while their hand was on her mouth.

Adelyn mumbled some words, and then the person realised she could not talk and removed their hand.

"Max, what the hell do you think you're doing?!" She whispered.

Max chuckled, "well, I was looking for you, actually."

Adelyn rolled her eyes, her cheeks flushing a little pink, "we can't hang around, I'm afraid, I have someone to find."

Max lifted an eyebrow, wanting more information, but Adelyn just got up and brushed herself off.

"You coming or what?" Adelyn offered him a hand.

"Yeah, sure." He got up without her help. "Who're we looking for?"

"Girl named Crystal. Shifter, wolf. She's got strawberry blonde hair, and her wolf is white. Oh, and she's got wings."

Max laughed, "I didn't need her entire life story. How'd you know her, anyway?"

"She ran past me earlier, knights were chasing her. I ran after her and helped clean up the blood. She ran off when the knights got to the lake."

"I see."

Adelyn began walking. "I have an idea, which you may, or may not like, but I wanna tell you both at the same time. Chop chop."

"Alright, ma'am." Max followed her.

Darkness loomed over the forest, and silence pierced the air. A chilly breeze made walking a little unbearable, and Adelyn wished she could be at home, tucking in bed right about now. She was about to turn to Max and tell him they should stop for the night, when they saw Crystal, collasped on the floor, a small pool of blood surrounding her body.

Adelyn ran up to the girl, hoping she was still alive. She checked to see if she still had a pulse, and sighed in relief when she felt a beat.

"Crystal!"

"Wha-"

"Oh good, you are awake. I was getting worried!"

"Have you been following me?" Crystal looked at Max. "And who is that?"

"My name's Max, I'm a friend of Adelyn's."

Crystal glared at him before loooking at Adelyn. "Thanks for the help earlier, by the way."

"No problem." Adelyn smiled.

Crystal smiled back before slowly frowning. Then she whipped her head around, facing away from the other two. A fluffy, white cat appeared out of the bushes, standing tall, as tall as a cat can stand on all fours, and proud, chest puffed out. The cat was closely followed by a girl, her breathes heavy and her cheeks bright red.

"H-hello," the girl said, gasping for air, "I wondered when I would find people like you."

"People like us?" Adelyn questioned, arching a brow.

"Yes, people like you." She lowered her voice. "Magic folk."

The three looked at each other, then at the girl.
