As a student studying Fine Art in the year 2112, I find it extremely important to look back on all of the great artists that have come before us. Yes, truly magnificent works of art were created hundreds of years before we were born. Easily recognized classics like the Mona Lisa (as shown above) are some of my favorite to admire and analyze. However, there is one era of art that, in my humble opinion, surpasses all others.

The Era of Memes.

Believed to have reached its peak sometime around 2010 - 2020, the Era of Memes was a time of online editing and self deprecation. People with problems 'posted' them in the form of captions to well known images, and other people would relate, often typing things like 'lmao same'. While it is not known what all of the abbreviations of this time stood for, my personal guess is that 'lol' stood for 'lots of love', due to the sheer amount of self loathing shown on the 2010 - 2020 internet.

In a time of fast trends that fizzled out as quickly as they started, these were some of the most memorable memes.
