The crowd roared as neon lights flashed and lasers traced the room randomly. The mosh pit was crowded, full of people screaming, singing, pushing, and shoving. Live music blasted everyone's eardrums, and yet everyone was still enjoying themselves.
Except for one person.
Jack stood squished between his cheering friend and a bunch of strangers. He tried to calm down and tune out the blasting music, but he couldn't steady his breathing or catch up with his own heartbeat. Finally, he'd had enough. He tried to push through the crowd to escape, but when he tried to push a tall man aside, he was shoved back.
"Hey! What do you think you're doing? Do you think you can just shove people around?!" He shouted in Jack's face. Jack tried to answer, but he was too busy choking back sobs as tears rolled down his face. "Answer me!" The man shoved Jack again, harder.
Jack stumbled backwards into another person. They whipped around to see who it was, but when they saw a boy in a bright green and pink sweater with neon green hair, they immediately softened.
"Hey, are you okay?" Jack heard a deep voice from behind him. Jack quickly turned around to see another scary man dressed in black leather and spikes.
"I-I'm so sorry, I-" Jack tried to apologize, but was quickly interrupted.
"This asshole keeps pushing people around!" The buff man from before grabbed the collar of Jack's shirt and raised his fist. "Let me show you who's boss-" He growled, but was knocked back with a punch to the nose. The man in the spiked leather jacket grabbed the back of Jack's sweater and pulled him close. The buff man stood up slowly, blood dripping down his face and staining his shirt. "You fucking cunt, you're gonna get it now!" The man charged forward, but the boy in the leather jacket kicked him straight in his nuts. The buff man fell to the ground, groaning through his teeth. The boy in the leather jacket grabbed Jack and pulled him through the crowd.
"Jack?" Felix called, looking for his small friend. "Jack!" He saw Jack being pulled away and ran after him.
"P-Please don't hurt m-me! I-I didn't mean to cause t-trouble, I-I swear!" Jack sobbed, trying to wipe away the tears streaming down his face.
Once they were out in an empty space, the boy stopped abruptly. Jack ran into his back and stumbled backwards.
"I-I'm sorry! I-I'm so so-orry, p-please l-leave me a-alone, I-" Jack couldn't stop the tears streaming down his cheeks or stop the sobs escaping his mouth.
"Hey, it's okay! It's okay!" The boy held Jack's shoulders. "I'm not gonna hurt you. I wanted to make sure you were okay." He comforted Jack with a warm smile. Jack opened his mouth to thank him, but then started sobbing again. "H-Hey! It's alright, it's alright..." He tried to wipe away Jack's tears with his thumb. He hugged Jack tightly and let Jack sob into his shoulder, hushing him softly. "Are you okay?" He asked when Jack had finally calmed down. Jack nodded into the guy's shoulder, swallowing his whimpers. "Now, can you tell me what happened?" He pulled back, but kept holding Jack's shoulders.
"I-I came here with my friend Felix. He wanted to hang out, and he got concert tickets to see his favorite band. Our friend was busy, and he had two tickets, so I came with him. B-But, it was really s-scary, a-and-" Jack started tearing up again.
"It was scary?" The boy furrowed his eyebrows.
"Yeah! 'Cause it's loud, a-and there's a lot of people, and the people are scary, and everyone was yelling-" Jack bit his lip to stop himself from crying again.
"Okay..." The boy sighed. "And then what happened?"
"I tried to get out, and I tried to push my way through the crowd, but this guy got mad at me for pushing him! And he pushed me, and I bumped into you, and it was horrible! And he grabbed my shirt, and he was gonna punch me, and-" Jack babbled on.
