The first two hours at Diagon Alley were a whirlwind of purchases, they exchanged their currency, bought four sets of robes (to be on the safe side), two owls (Charles, and Stan), at least twenty books, a wand, protective gloves made of dragon hide, a winter cloak, a pointed hat (which she found to be a little odd and quite stereotypical), three different cauldrons, and a bunch of strange materials, like pygmy puff fur (she didn't even know what a pygmy puff was!), crystal phials (also known as special little bottles for potions, which she could have bought at a regular store for much cheaper), a telescope, and a set of brass scales.
She was even sure what half of this stuff was or why she even needed any of it but they bought it and she was pretty sure it weighed more than her.
Her wand was 10" applewood with a Phoenix feather core. She supposed it was quite springy and felt happy, if a piece of dead tree could feel that way.
Celia carried Charles and Stan out to the car, while her father had the rest of her things. It was surprising how much he was able to carry as there was quite a bit.
Charles sat regally like he was king of his cage and he wanted everyone to know it, while Stan, poor Stan. He was slightly out of it, looking around confused, his small body perched in the center, and squawking every time Celia shook him. His feathers ruffled and he looked at her a bit angrily, if this confused little guy could be angry, as she put them in the back seat of the car.
The ride home was quiet, both Celia and her father contemplating the next year. She wasn't quite sure about any of this but she had books and she was going to read them all. She knew Hogwarts had a library, all schools did, and that was all she needed. She had always been bookish, reading everything she could get her hands on, craving information, but this was something she had never encountered before. There were new creatures, new people, new books, spells, really everything, and it was terrifyingly exhilarating.
