After they had both changed into their robes Celia noticed hers looked quite plain compared to his. Hers were just black, her tie had no color like his, and she didn't have a crest.
"Why do your robes look different than mine?" She asked.
"This is my second year. I've already been sorted into my house."
She tilted her head, "You're going need to elaborate more, I haven't exactly read all my books yet."
Malcolm let out a laugh, "Hogwarts has four houses, Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, and Slytherin. I'm a Slytherin. When we get there they take first years and sort them into houses, with this super old hat. Then your robes turn the color of your house and you sit at your table. They'll explain it all in more detail later on."
"Sounds uh cool?," Celia grinned, and looked out the window, "Whoa! It's so pretty," she said pressing her face to it so she had a better view of the castle looming in the distance.
"Yea, it is pretty neat.."
The train lurched as it came to a stop and Celia fell onto the chair next to her, she rubbed her elbow laughing as she got up. She reached to grab her bag when Malcolm said, "Oh, just leave it! It'll be in your room when you get there."
They walked off the train to see a large man with an even larger beard holding a large lantern and saying "Firs' yer's, over here!"
"Well this is where I leave, see you later Celia," Malcolm said and then walked away, mumbling something, she believed to be 'hopefully', thought she wasn't quite sure.
Celia took a deep breath and walked towards the rest of the first years.
"Well gather 'round. Is that all of ye'? Mind your step, now! Firs' yer's follow me!" The giant man said, smiling, "I'm Hagrid, the keeper of keys and grounds at this school. Well follow me, and keep up, ye' don't want to get stuck in these woods at night."
All of the confused first years followed. Celias hands were deep in her pockets, rubbing the charm on her bracelet. She had no idea where they were going as she hadn't read much about the school itself, only about spells, potions and the like.
"No more'n four to a boat! Everyone in? Well then', Forward!"
The small boats slid across the water, and the blonde girl in front of her turned around to say, "My brother told me there's an octopus in this lake and that sometimes it tries to eat people, and that last year it attacked the first years! But I think he was joking.."
Celia laughed, "I hope he was just trying to scare you! I'm really not looking to get eaten today."
The girl turned around, everyone was silent as they all looked at the castle looming in the distance. Gasps could be heard across the lake, as they all stared at the illuminates architectural masterpiece looming in front of them.
"Heads down!" Hagrid yells as the boats went through a curtain of ivy in a large cliff face. More gasps could be heard as the light from the moon was snuffed out.
The water rippled next to them, as a dark purple mass moved through the water. The blonde haired girl turned around, her eyes wide. The boat hit the shore and they scrambled out laughing as they fell over each other in the pebbles.
They all followed Hagrid to the castle. Quiet in the anticipation of what was to come.
Hagrid knocked on a set of large wooden doors, "Here's yer first years, Professor McGonagall!"
Professor McGonagall was a dark haired witch, with piercing eyes. She seemed to be the kind of lady you didn't want to cross but also quite nice at the same time.
Once in the castle Celia couldn't help but admire the stunning architecture around her. The high ceilings she couldn't even see, the torch light, all of it was just breathtaking, so much so that she actually forgot to breath for a few seconds. She led them to an empty chamber and Celia heard cheering and many voices from behind two large wooden doors.
"Welcome to Hogwarts," she said smiling, "The start-of-term banquet will begin shortly but before you are allowed to sit you must be sorted into your houses. Sorting is an immensely important ceremony here, as your house will be like your family for your time here at Hogwarts. You will have classes with them, eat with them, sleep with them, and spend free time with them in your common room," McGonagall said, as though she had recited it many times before. "The houses are called Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, and Slytherin. They each have outstanding history and has produced outstanding witches and wizards. While here, your good deeds will win your house points, while any trouble will loose you them. At the end of the year, the house with the most points will be awarded the house cup, a great honor here. The Sorting ceremony will take place in a few moments," she said and then walked out, closing the doors behind her.
"Hey!" A voice sneered behind Celia. She turned around to see a pale boy with dark hair behind her, standing with a girl who looked immensely similar.
Celia smiled, "Yes?"
"Are you the mudblood I saw hanging out with Malcolm earlier?" The boy asked angrily.
Celia was confused at the term mudblood, it wasn't one she's heard before but it sounded ugly, "I'm not sure what a mudblood is but yes, I was sitting with Malcolm. He's quite nice."
"A mudblood is muggle born scum like yourself!" The girl scoffed as if Celia was stupid.
Celia rolled her eyes and begin to laugh, everyone starred, and the boy looked incredibly angry, "What are you laughing about? Do you think this is funny?"
She smiled, trying not to show how nervous she was, "Yes, quite. I can't bring myself to be bothered by you today. I've just been having a lovely time so it seems silly to waste any on such despicable people."
The people around them were shuffling about, obviously confused as to what to do and to what was happening, just as she was.
The girl scoffed, "Never in a thousand years did I believe I would be called despicable by a mudblood."
"Maybe I should teach this little girl her place, sister," The dark hair boy said.
"I think that would be wise, brother."
He took a step back and raised his fist as to retaliate just as the door swung open.
