He was asleep on the couch. It was typical of him to feel that way after having a pleasant afternoon. Charlene kept him busy and pleased him in every possible way, he was exhausted, he was spent.
She watched from the door for a while to be sure he was asleep before she slipped into the room quietly.

Prisca had told her where he keeps the keys and made her practice with the tin foils she smuggled into her room on how to take up the key without a sound. It took a while but eventually she mastered the act.
She stood in front of him for a few seconds to make sure he was asleep before she opened the desk drawer, the bunch of keys lay there waiting to be taken. She carefully lifted it out and enclosed it in her palms but it made a sound and he turned in his sleep. She froze. He grunted and after a while continued snoring. She quietly let out her breath that she held. She quietly backed out of the room.
Her sense of urgency heightened the moment she came out. She hurried and went to Prisca's door and started trying the keys, when it finally opened she sneaked it.
'Shhh! Don't make a sound, it's me' she said
Prisca nodded
'He is finally asleep. Come, we have to hurry'
she bent and unlocked her chains and helped her up.
They both had agreed to train on how to steal the keys so that whenever any of them was chosen and the opportunity presented itself, they would not hesitate to break out. Prisca finally stood up, She was weak but sharp. She quickly followed her out and then took the lead.
'Shall I open Jasmine's door? Charlene asked
'No! Of course not, that bitch is crazy, she will call out for him once she discovers it's us. We don't have time, we need to look for shoes if we intend on running fast'
She led Charlene to a closet that they fold the laundry into and they both chose to wear sneakers. They started out the door.
Halfway they passes thru the living room and Prisca held the urge to go and murder him in his sleep, she knew it would be foolish to try because she was very week and wouldn't match his strength. So she swallowed her urges and focused on her escape.
They reached the end of the hallway and Charlene started trying the keys, it made so much noise that Prisca had to take it from her and try it herself.
It finally opened.
They stepped out and breathed in their first air of freedom. It was amazing to finally see the sun even though it was dusk.
Prisca turned and tried to fit in the key to lock the door. She heard a sound, looked up and froze. It was Aaron coming out of the hallway and yawning. It took him a moment to notice the unusual rush of air in the hallway, he turned and saw them standing outside.
Time seemed to freeze, they all stood looking at each other. Then, suddenly he bellowed with rage and Charlene cried out
'Hurry, let's go'
Prisca needn't be told twice. She quickly slammed the door and turned the key, she left the key in after locking it and together they began to run.
They didn't have much of a head start, they held him screaming and running out thru the back door a minute later, and Prisca made the ultimate decision.
To be on the road meant they would soon be caught and so she stirred their direction and entered the woods...
