It was Valentine’s Day, and even though Niall was in second grade, he took this holiday very seriously. His mom always told him that this holiday was about sharing his love. So he made cards for most of the girls. Not Brion though, because she didn’t want to share her shiny bracelet with him.
He made one for Y/N from the parallel class as well. He used his favorite golden glitter on that one, so she could understand just how much Niall liked her pig tails.
When Niall came back to his homeroom after lunch, he found a card waiting for him. His heart beat faster, because he never ever thought he’d receive a Valentine’s Day card too, not from someone who wasn’t his mom at least. But it was there, clearly addressed to him!
He took it in his hands, and opened it, and immediately found a pressed yellow flower inside, attached to the piece of paper with lots and lots of glue. There was a note “To my special friend from Y/N” in neat handwriting written under it. And even though it was a dead flower, and some of its petals already fell down, Niall smiled and reached to touch it.
But as soon as Niall touched it, his fingers got glued to the card too.
He pulled, but they still remained stuck.
His eyes widened, as he realized that it must be a terrible prank that she pulled on him. All the girls made fun of him, so why did he ever think that Y/N was different? A lump quickly formed in his throat and his eyes were beginning to sting.
The bell to the lesson rang, and Mrs. Sullivan came into the room. Thankfully, the other kids were busy playing games or getting their books out to pay any attention to Niall. But as soon as Mrs Sullivan saw Niall staring at a piece of paper in his palm, she rushed to him and asked who did this. With the smallest of voices Niall told her.
In mere minutes Y/N was dragged into the classroom by Mrs Sullivan, and she ordered her to apologize immediately.
Y/N’s eyes were filled with sadness, as she shifted from one foot to another in front of Niall’s desk.
“You didn’t like my card?” she asked, “I’m so sorry it’s bad, I just wanted to give you a pretty flower.”
“What?”
“You know, because Valentine’s Day is all about love. And you’re my friend,” She explained slowly, and sighed.
“This isn’t a prank?”
“What?” now it was her turn to be confused. She looked over at Niall and suddenly realized that his fingers were glued to the card.
“Oh, I’m sorry! I knew I was using too much super glue, but I just wanted to make sure it didn’t fall off,” She quickly reached for the card too, in attempt to help Niall get his hand free from it, “I’m gonna…”
But instead, her fingers got stuck inside of it too. And even though she pulled, nothing happened.
At that, Niall suddenly laughed, all of his worries fading away.
Mrs. Sullivan told them to go to the bathroom to wash it away, and Niall was giggling the whole time while they walked down the corridors of the school with their hands stuck on a Valentine’s Day card. They looked very silly. And even though the card got completely ruined under the stream of warm water, Y/N smiled too, and sang Niall a song called I’m Sticking With You and made Niall feel all funny inside of his belly.
