My eyes shoot up at the word.
Mine.
The man that just entered looks shocked as he looks down at me, his vibrant blue eyes studying my every feature.
A small smile grows upon his face as he sees me and along side the power only an Alpha can release, his happiness is radiated off him as he stares at me.
"Excuse me?"
He growls again, I can't help but smile at the beauty of his voice, "Mate."
I've heard that word before. Where I've heard it, I don't know. It just kinda got thrown about when two wolves were...friends I guess...
"Uh... I'm not your friend," I say pushing myself onto my feet.
Pain shoots through my leg and I grunt before quickly catching myself. I guess I'm not exactly healed yet.
His arm shoots out as I grab the wall for support only I jump back at the Sparks which shoot through my body.
"The hell was that?" I spit, stepping away from him.
I flinch as his large hand reaches out to wards my face and his face quickly mirrors one of hurt.
"I wouldn't hurt you," he says, insulted.
"Really?" I nod slowly, a small smile sliding into my face, "and that's why your wolves attacked me."
"They were commanded not to by my beta. I'm so sorry... I'll never let anyone hurt you again."
He steps forward with open arms, prepared to embrace me and I step back again.
The hells wrong with this guy?
He frowns, obviously confused by my reaction.
What's so confusing? I'm in this guys cell, I've never met him before and now he's trying to hug me!
I shake off the thoughts and think back to what's more important.
"Are they safe?"
"Who?"
"The kids I came with."
A low growl erupts in his chest and without thinking I match it with one of my own.
"If you even touched a hair on their head-" I growl lowly.
"I didn't. The human is sleeping and the Vampire has been locked in a bedroom, we had to sedate him to get him there."
I fight to suppress another growl.
"And Toby?"
"The wolf?" He growls again.
"Yes the wolf. Is. he. ok?"
"Fine. Playing with the pups in our pack. Is he yours?" Anger flashes in his eyes as though he's disgusted at the thought of me having had a pup.
"Excuse me?"
What exactly is he insinuating? Even if I was a mother at 18 (which I'm not) how the hell does it concern him?
"Is he yours?"
"No! Although I can't see how it has anything to do with you, Toby is not my child, nor is Sam or Rae! I'd have been pregnant age 10 if he was my kid!"
He seems to calm down despite my outrage.
"Good," he sighs, "you can see them all, but first you've got to calm that vampire of yours down."
"Fine! Just let me see them."

The door to the bedroom-cell which holds Sam is slowly opened. I hear a snarl from the inside and the next thing I know, Sam has leaped out of the room and has his teeth wrapped around the Alphas throat.
"Sam!" I snap and his eyes snap to me.
Instantly his gaze softens and he looks to the ground in shame before stepping away.
"Sorry..."
I turn to the Alpha, "May I speak to him alone?"
He nods before walking away. I don't miss the way his hand reaches up and gently massages his throat where Sam almost bit him.
"I'm sorry Iris, I really am! I don't mean to do it... It's just an urge which comes over me whenever any of you are in danger, I just want to prove I can look after you all!"
"Sam! It's ok," I smile softly, "but you're still a kid and shouldn't worry about looking after us. Enjoy your child hood and let me take care of the mess that we've been thrown into. Just promise me that you'll try to resist and just let me take care of everything."
"But what If you-"
"Trust me Sam. Everything will be ok. This will all be over soon; I can feel it."
"You've been able to feel it for the past year, Iris. You keep saying soon."
"I have a plan."
He locks eyes with me and stares into them for a while; trying to see if he can trust me. Satisfied, he smiles slightly and sighs, "you do what you have to, I trust you."
I nod in thanks.

After making sure Sam was going to behave I checked up on Rae and Toby. Rae was completely flat out on a large bed in her own room. I smiled slightly at the sight. She hasn't slept on a bed in years, none of us have. I usually just shift into my wolf at night and they all sleep around me to stay both warm and safe.
As promised, Toby was outside with a small group of wolves around his age. I wasn't watching them so much as I was watching the forest behind them though. The boarder control of these packs is strong. So strong that no rouge would even think about stepping into pack territory without a death wish... Well... Except from me that is...
I squeeze shut my eyes for a moment to remind myself: I'm on pack territory, the rouges aren't coming. Even they are smart enough to know to keep off the pack land.
My eyes flick back to Toby. He seems happy, a huge smile spreading over his lips as he plays with the other kids. He's happy here. That's what he needs.
I have to talk to the alpha.
I've been looking to get Toby into a pack, but I've never trusted one enough. He seems happy here, maybe it was meant to be.
I reach his office door and knock twice.
I don't push the door open until his voice yells back, "Come in."
Maybe I can get one of us a future.
