Chapter 4

Oh my god an update!!! What is this strange thing?
So sorry for not updating much recently! I'm trying to update more often but... well, I'll explain at the end cos I won't hold you off from the chapter any longer than I have! Enjoy!!!

Slowly I open the door to his office where he sits in the centre of a pile of paper work. As I enter, a bright smile covers his face which for some reason makes me want to smile in reply.
"Alpha," I state formally, "I wantedo to talk to you."
He indicates to the seat opposite his desk, "Call me Adrian, you're my mate."
Again with the whole mate thing?
"So what did you want to talk about...?" He pauses, waiting for my name.
"Iris."
"Iris..." he grins, testing out me name on his tongue, it sounded so perfect coming from his mouth, "that is a beautiful name."
"Uh... thanks?" I mutter, swiping a strand of hair behind my ear, "I wanted to talk to you about Toby."
"The wolf?"
"Yes, the wolf," I growl slightly "I wanted to ask what the possibility of him joining your pack. He's been a rouge most his life which was certainly not his fault, you don't have to worry about him being a threat to your pack -he's the most innocent thing you could ever meet. I've been trying to find a good pack for him for years but it's difficult seeing as I'm a rouge. Thing is, I can see he's happy and comfortable here and I think he's already made enough new friends. I'm not an idiot, I know that I can't join your pack now because I'm older and seen as a threat, but he deserves the chance."
He nods slowly, hurt flashing through his eyes as I suggested myself leaving, "You aren't leaving, Iris."
"Excuse me?"
"The boy, he can join our pack, but so will you. I've waited twenty-four years for you and you can't leave now."
I purse my lips, "I think you've made a mistake, I'm 18. You can't have waited 24 years when I wasn't alive for six of them... besides, isn't that a bit creepy? I mean you don't look much older than 24 so..."
"You're my mate," he growls, clenching the table as he raises from his seat.
His whole body shakes with anger as his eyes gaze over with a shade of black.
"I'm not your mate!" I growl back, matching his stance.
"You were made for me! Don't deny it!"
"I wasn't made for anyone!"
"You are mine!"
"I'm not anybody's possession and I won't let some egoistic Alpha tell me otherwise!"
In a dash, his hand shoots forwards and grips my arm making small tingles dance through my body and immediately my range begins to disperse. His eyes bore into mine as he growls, "Don't you feel that? That's the bond inside each of us which unites us. That makes you mine and me yours -nobody else's. Those sparks tie our souls together. You are my mate and you will stay in my pack to become Luna. You're mine."
I rip my arm out of his grip and step back. I'm not sure whether I'm more confused over what this bond is he's speaking of or petrified over the fact I almost signed Toby up to join a pack with an emotionally and mentally unstable alpha. Alpha Adrian must have lost his head to call me Luna, I may not know much about my kind, but I do know a Luna is the alphas lover who co-runs a pack. I also know that I am definitely not a Luna.
I have to get myself and the kids out of here.
"Excuse me, Alpha Adrian. I'm going to go make sure the kids are ok and go on a run around your territory if that's ok? Can you ask your guards not to try to kill me this time?"
He nods, "Do you want me to join you, mate?"
"No thanks."
Cautiously, I step out the room. Only when the door's shut do I finally release the deep breath which I hadn't known I was holding.
I need to get us out of here.
After grabbing an asleep Rae from her bed and unlocking the door to Sam's bedroom, I go outside to call Toby.
Sam and I look over at Toby who's playing with the other wolves as I adjust a sleeping Rae in my grip.
"Toby," I yell gaining his attention immediately.
It's a shame, he looks so happy. Finally with kids the same age and of the same kind. A vampire and a wolf aren't even supposed to like each other, let alone live together. Humans and wolfs have been known to be friends, fall in love even. But Rae is so much younger than him. He deserves to be this happy.
Just not here.
Not with this crazy Alpha.
It isn't safe here.
I can feel the eyes of Alpha Adrian boring into my skin from his office which backs onto the garden. I don't turn around though.
"I'm going on a run, do you want to join us?"
I can't say we're leaving, not yet. With his Alpha hearing, I have no doubt that he will hear making this hopeless.
He won't even get to say goodbye to his new friends.
"Yeah sure!" He grins running over to me.
Together, we head over to the edge of the forest and step inside. The shadows of the trees block the burning heat of the sun and I feel myself relax as I inhale the soft piney scent of the calming forest.
I watch the wind blow through the leaves and the issues from this pack soon disperse and leave my mind.
With one final glance at the pack house, I place the now awake Rae onto my back and shift before we dart off further and further into the forest. A strange tug pulls on my heart as we slowly edge closer to the boarder.
Let's just hope we never have to come back here.
