On the gate, it read,
"Abandon all hope, ye who enter here"
Well, there is not much hope anyway, what is there to abandon? Hope is the last thing we have, especially in Hell, or to be in Hell.
As we entered the official gate, a loud thunder crashed. I'm pretty sure now we are noticed. Noticed by the storm spirits and for that matter all spirits who reside here.
I feel so comfortable. Imagine waking with a long dress with an embarrassing long deep V-neck for a quest, holding a sword! Thank God there was a different option. This lance isn't so bad. It helps me climb and throw away all the branches that come in my way.
"Could you hurry up? We will miss the boat if you keep dawdling about!" Virgil said.
"What boat? Aren't we in Circle I already?"
"Young lady, we all hope for things don't we? I wish we were already in the ninth so that things go fast. But we aren't, so you need to move those legs of yours! If we lose that boat we will wait for a day more. More waiting means less time to save daddy and less time to save ourselves for that matter. Clear?" he said.
"Crystal! . . At least tell me where the boat goes?"
"It's the boat to cross River Acheron and reach Circle I safely. The boat Helmsman is a personal friend of mine, " he said.
"River Acheron? "
"Yes, the river of sorrow." he said.
"Sorrow? Wow . . . Who ends up there? Sounds really bad to me."
"The souls of the uncommitted, stay there. They lived for themselves on earth . . . and of the angels who were not against God nor faithful to the Princes. Neither Heaven nor Hell would have them, and so they remain here with the selfish . . . eternally stung by hornets and wasps . . . with worms at their feet that eat the blood and tears of these beings." he said trying to hold back the last few words.
"That is horrific! What kind of punishment is that?"
"It's the way things work here. There is nothing we can do about it. The princes decide who goes where. And many a times people just find their place according to their crime." he said.
"Well . . . If that's the way it is . . . It's bad. Punishment is bad, for anyone."I said as a caught a glimpse of the river.
Holy crap. Thousands of souls, more than a thousand, probably millions. Uncountable unending cries from them. Actual wasps and hornets stinging them. Stinging them to feel pain. To be pinned down. To feel punished. This is horrible! The sound of such a cry is painful to even think of. To go through it is much worse. They all are pleading for mercy, yet no one hears their cry.
"Virgil! That's . . . that's terrible!"
"Well, this is just the beginning . . . Never thought Hell would be so bad right? The tour just freaks you out. I've been through that myself . . . it's okay, your new to this" he said.
"Doesn't someone care about the things here? Ask from someone who has been through pain! Ask them! This is just terrible. No soul gets to be treated like this!"
"Calm down lady! These souls have got punishment based on their crime. Those in Hell are people who tried to justify their sins and are unrepentant . . . So in my opinion, they do deserve punishment, maybe not like this, but yes. There is really nothing we can do. If by chance someone does hear their cries, there is nothing that person can do. So Let's focus on the quest shall we?" he said.
