“Oh my gosh you guys were SO cute.” Lexi was fixing her hair. We were in the girls bathroom together. I still kind of cringed at the thought of being in a school bathroom so I always invited Lexi. She didn’t ask any questions. “I still can’t believe he told him to call himself a fairy princess. It’s pretty believable though. He definitely looks the part.” We both laughed.
The door to the bathroom opened right when I was about to say something else. It was Claire and her friends.
“Well well well. Look at what we have here.” Claire said and the two behind her giggled. Their heels clicked as they walked toward me. I couldn’t help but shiver at the memory and I shrunk into a small ball, still remaining standing. Claire looked worried for a second before continuing. “So I heard you and Danny had some great PDA going on at the game last night.” She started applying lipstick in the mirror. It was dark red and glossy. Another memory flashed in my head. I felt the warmth leave my hands as they turned ice cold. My fingers were sweaty but cold and I had a cold sweat on my forehead. “I just wanted to tell you to back off. I want Danny back.”
“W-Why?” I managed to croak out. Both Lexi and Claire looked at me strange.
“Just because.” This situation was way too similar and I was shaking.
“Dani? Are you okay?” Lexi asked me and I nodded. I decided to push the memory behind me and confront the current problem at hand.
“Claire. Danny and I are dating.”
“Doesn’t mean you can’t break up with him. I mean it’s not like it’s the first time me and him have been together.” I looked at Lexi. She nodded and confirmed that it was true. “He even took my first time.” Lexi continued nodding and I felt some anger rise inside of me.
“So? Why are you telling me this?”
“I’m telling you this so you can back off, Danielle.” She was finished applying her lipstick and turned to face me now. “I want Danny back.”
“That doesn’t mean you can get him back, Claire. You guys were over long ago.” Lexi stepped in and defended me. I touched her arm in gratitude. She nodded back at me and smiled. “Just leave them alone, Claire.”
Something inside of Claire seemed to snap as she yelled, “Leave them alone? How can I? I don’t get why he’s dating this- this girl!” She pointed at me and continued. “It’s not like she’s a bombshell! She’s perfectly normal! What does she have that’s different from all the other girls who throw themselves at him? I don’t get it!” She lunged for me and I ducked down. Her body came at me quickly and I grabbed a hold of her stomach and managed to hold her back. She didn’t stop trying, however. She kept pushing forward and grabbed the back of my shirt. I was determined to push her away from me and kept pushing and tugging at her shirt. Her shirt lifted and I saw something I didn’t expect completely. I relaxed and backed up away from her.
“Claire? What’s that on your-”
She realized what I was referring to and quickly pulled her shirt down and sank down to the floor. It seemed her followers didn’t know what was going on either. “Nothing you care about, loser!” She was angry but I felt the sadness in her voice.
“Claire? I want to know.” I looked at her with concern.
“You don’t care.”
“Claire? Yes I do. I won’t make fun of you for it.” She looked up at me with disbelief.
