I walked into the hallway of my new apartment. I dropped my backpack onto the floor wearily and lay on my new sofa with a large sigh, feeling the need for sleep. My eyelids were heavy and I knew I'd be asleep in moments if I didn't move now. Someone was knocking on my door. I lifted myself up, my arms just as tired as I was. Ugh, what time do you call this? I dragged my feet as I made my way to the front door. On opening the door with the little strength I had left, I was greeted by that angelic face once again.
"Oh, hi Dan." I beamed at him through tired eyes.
"Lauren? I didn't expect to see you here." He looked surprised. I nodded, my eyes half-closed, motioning him into my flat to the couch. He walked in awkwardly, closing the door behind him and slumped on the side of the sofa. I curled up in a ball quietly, clutching a pillow which belonged to my mum. It contained her scent, which I missed already. Only a few hours ago, she was kissing my cheek and saying "goodbye" at Penrith train station.
"I came to welcome my new neighbour." He smiled wide, before opening his arms wide. "So, welcome to our building. Welcome hug?" He asked cutely, loking into my eyes that were peeking over the pillow.
It was hard to say "no". I shuffled over and his embrace was warm and comforting. He cuddled me close and hummed softly.
"Welcome home." Dan whispered softly and that was all I remembered before I slowly drifted off to sleep.
