It was time, how am I going to slip past Keira. My older sister was not just my legal guardian now that our father was gone. Ever since she has acted as a warden watching my every move. It also hadn't helped that I have been getting into more trouble lately. Now she was starting to get crafty.
"Come on think, I need to make it to this meeting."
This group of people are interested in the scientific brake through of Marcus Night and Jade Lace. No one knew for certain what it truly was But the police and government officials banned the use of such materials, as the results where concluded as unlawful. The prohibition of such a drug and usefulness to human kind drove me to gather as much information as possible about it. The only problem is after the drug was announced as illegal, and the end product was scrapped Marcus and Jade both disappeared so no one could get any answers on the project. They where assumed dead along with jades sister and A few of their other companions. The last time any of them where seen was two years ago. One of their companions are meeting a small group of insiders, people that support the group from inside the city. Bringing them food, medicine, building materials, whatever they need to survive out of the city. The group was to be small, but twenty invites were being distributed to the meeting. They where said to only go to ones who could join the group and I scored a invite. So missing this opportunity to possibly meet one of these missing lynx was not an option. Think what can I do? I can't climb out the window cause I'll have to pass the living room, and that is where Keira likes to sit and have her wine in the afternoon. So I have to go down stairs ,but I can't go out the front or back door because the hinges creek. "The basement window!" I can go down into the basement then out the fire escape window. I packed my backpack with a water bottle, my phone which I promptly put on silent, my wallet that had a hundred in it, my watch, and a sandwich in case I get hungry. I didn't know how long I would be out. I swiftly but quietly went down the stairs to the main floor then peeked into the living room. Like I predicted Keira was on the couch with her glass of white wine that if I had to guess would be Silver Beach (her favorite),and watching some house finders show. I rolled my eyes then crept down the stairs into the basement. I checked for a final time that I had everything then slipped the bag strap on my shoulders while climbing up the ladder. At the top a hand was held out to me. I froze for a second. Then looked up, my sister was standing there dark green eyes starred cutting into me, as her curly brown hair moved slightly in the dull wind. Her thin frame looking strong from the angle I was at and combined with the anger on her face. After getting me out of the hole she escorted me (unwillingly may I add) back inside.
"Keira I'm nineteen now I can make my own choices I don't need to have you be my babysitter!" I said irritated as I plopped down on the couch.
"Why do you think I would let you leave. So the police can bring you home again."
This I knew was not a question. A few times when I went to find information on the Night project there was a police raid on the place.
"I wasn't convicted."
Keira laughed
"No maybe not last time Imara but what about the next time?"
She took a breath expelling it loudly
"Dose any of your actions have to do with Conner?"
I was taken aback. Conner was my unofficial boyfriend, which makes Keira uncomfortable sense he is a year older than her.
"He has nothing to do with any of this. He didn't want me to look at this."
She finally looked relieved a little
"finally one of you have some common sense. Listen to your boyfriend for this once. I don't understand why you are going after this with so much effort. Is it because I don't want you to? Is it because it's illegal? What? why do you do this to me?"
Now she was sitting on the table in front of me holding my hands pleading with me to give her the answer.
"It was something dad was interested with before ...."
I let the rest sit in the air. We both knew how it ended. She hugged me. I let a defeated look cross my face as I got up heading to the stairs, but then I quickly went through and slammed the front door Keira on the other side screaming. By the time she opened the door I was around a corner and she had lost sight of me. "Aww man!" In the rush to get away from my sister I forgot to grab my board. I have a custom hover board not made by the major companies today who jack the lifting fans. I made my own out of junk that my sister was going to throw away and the hover board junkyard. Actually I made two. I got out my phone skipping all the threats from my sister that I had already accumulated, and started to text Conner.
I: Hey Conner can I ask you a favor?
C: Hey yep what's up babe?
I: I need to borrow your board, my sister is holding mine hostage at the house.
C: Why?
I really didn't like the answers to either of the questions he could be referring to but he was to smart to have me invade the questions entirely.
I: Why what?
C: Don't play dumb. I know for a fact your smarter than me Imara Ann Summers
I: I will hurt you for that last part later.... I need the board cause I'm going to a secret meeting for the Night project, and the second part is cause I just had a near life or death situation with Keira.
C: She caught you sneaking out again?
I: yes but then I out witted her after which I out ran on her.... And that is why I make you exercise.
C: touché, do you need me to pick you up?
I: that would be great.
I sent him my location then dropped my phone back in the bag. I sat on the corner and I waited for him. It was just starting to get cold. The sun was setting in the sky on this crisp autumn night. Then I saw him pull up in his red Corvette he had been customizing sense he was small. "Flashy much?" I mocked. He smiled in a cocky way pushing his sunglasses down his nose enough to look over the rim of them at me."No baby the question is, is it flashy enough." I threw my backpack through the open window at him then got in. He put on a pouty face which made him all the more cute with his sweet blue eyes and spiked Raven black hair. A sad tone came over his voice and he said "You know one day you really will hurt me then you'll be sorry." I leaned over to him and kissed him on the nose."But your so cute when your being patronized." He laughed the smile coming back to his face as we pulled away from the curb. He glanced at me then said "What makes this meeting different than others you have gone to in the past?" He practically was yelling over the wind coming through the windows.
"The way it was put out there. It was meant so that only the most interested parties would be invited."
He kept Looking over at me then back at the road.
"And where did you procure this information exactly?"
I stopped he got me there I winced as he pulled into his garage then turned his body towards me in his chair. "It was sent to my email I have been fishing for information for a while now and I guess these guys got wind of it." He glanced at me he could always tell when I had been lying "Ok ,ok, i admit it I went on the dark web." I looked at his face for a reaction, but it wasn't the one I was expecting. Conner is my version of Jiminy cricket. He tells me what I probably shouldn't do and most of the time I listen one of those things is not to go on the dark net, but he wasn't angry like my sister would be, not disappointed like I thought he would be, he just closed his eyes, smiling ,and started to shake his head back and forth slowly.
"Why am I not surprised?"
He exhaled then looked at me like he was looking for answers.
"Because your not as dumb as Keira thinks you are."
I tried to put a positive spin on things but he just put his head back on the rest closing his eyes again. This time I took his face in my hands and kissed him tenderly on the lips. Afterwards staying forehead to forehead and nose to nose for a moment. "Sorry." I said but I was still a distracted from the kiss. We both sat there for another second before we both knew it was time and we climbed out.
"Ok Conner where's your board? I'm going to be late."
He pointed near the door and I grabbed it, heading outside. Once i reached the driveway I turned it on. It hesitated to start for a second but then it lit up beautifully. I dropped the board and just as it started to dropped the board lifted levitating a foot off the ground. The green I emblem, lit up beautifully on the face of the slate gray board. It was an almost replica to mine other then the emblem color, mine being a brilliant blue. Just as programed the board sat as unmovable as the soldiers that use to stand outside Buckingham palace.
"why isn't it floating around?"
I rolled my eyes at him
"I gave you an operating book..." i had finished being upset that he doesn't remember what i say because to be honest i do talk a lot. "I specially designed the surface not to move until I have magnetized to the boots I made to it...."
I stood up showing them to him.
"And the bracelet has the code in it so others can't steel it."
Showing him the silver bracelet with a similarly illuminated I pendant as well.   I stepped gingerly onto the board then hit a button on the boots and a similar blue emblem lit up on them as well assuring me that they were working properly. I moved my knees in a jumping motion but my feet wouldn't move on the board
"Good."
I said  he was flat faced as I continued. Then I finished the safety part and went on to the fun. I leaned forward to whisper a secret into his ear. The code is my birth year 2028. All the sudden the board shuttered then awoke with a start, the engine odiously had not been used sense I gave it to him. So I started by giving it a little thrust that had ended up shooting me down the block. I smiled and shouted "Let's kick it!" I lifted the elevation with a press on my wrist then tilted the board forward. Which swiftly shot me off into the distance flying above the cars in the street barely able to tell the the colors apart. Drifting left on the next two streets put me back on Pritchard ave where Conner lives. He was standing in the driveway looking at where I went, not knowing that the mastronics where now making the board quiet as a kittens purr. I slowed my speed to a hover and lightly pushed forward. I stopped a foot behind, and five feet above him then I flipped the board upside down and tapped him on the shoulder. He jumped when he saw me upside down hanging from the board.
"Did you know your board is faster than mine? I like it."
I lowered down so we could look each eye to eye and he kissed me there Spider-Man style. It was done slow and passionately, so much so that I could taste his fear and his hunger. A surprised expression had taken over my face at his release, but one look into his eyes had me correcting my angle and landing the board. Unlocking my boots I walked over to him, and he wrapped me in his embrace."You scared the crap out of me. I thought you might have gotten hurt." I just let him hold me, holding him back to comfort him, but after a minute he let go. I stepped on the board pressing the buttons to get me up again and as soon as I did he grabbed my wrist. I looked back at him "Please come back." His plea hit me so hard it did the nearly impossible. It almost pushed me off the board.
"I promise when I do will give me that dark beer in your fridge."
His hand slipped from my wrist down to intertwine with my fingers and after giving them a brief squeeze he let me go. I took the opportunity to blast away towards the chance of seeing the people that might have a great effect on our future.
