I startled awake when I thought I heard a loud crash. I sprang out of bed and ran downstairs. When I got to the bottom of the stairs, I was relieved to see Tyler and Josh in the middle of practice. When they finished "Ode to Sleep", they looked at me, the out of shape 28-year-old sitting at the bottom of the stairs panting, and started laughing. "Hey Chloe. Did you sleep well?" Tyler asked in between laughs.
"Yeah, up until a few minutes ago when I thought someone broke into the house," I responded.
"Sorry. Band practice," Josh said.
"Yeah, I noticed," I said.
I heaved myself off the floor and went back upstairs to get dressed. Today was Josh and I's 2 year anniversary, and we were gonna have a day to ourselves while my friend Nattie, who had just moved next door from California where we're from, and Tyler hang out all day. Then, we were all gonna go out to dinner together. I threw on my black ripped jeans, my favorite Blurryface t-shirt, and my leather jacket. I grabbed my new Twenty Øne Piløts hat and went back downstairs, shoving my phone in my pocket and grabbing my all-black Converse.
When I got downstairs, I saw Nattie in the doorway. "Hey Nattie. Once Josh is ready, we'll be outta here," I said as I gave her a hug.
"It's no big deal, I've got all day. You see, if when we graduated from REV, you would've asked me, 'Hey Nattie, when Josh Dun and I have our 2nd anniversary, you wanna hang with our buddy Tyler?', I would've said, 'Chloe, what kind of drug did Ryan give you at graduation?' Anyway, my point is that today is gonna be a great day for me," she said.
I laughed. "Yeah, I can tell by the ramble. But please, come in. It's the middle of November and it's FREEZING out there."
She came inside, closing the door behind her. We sat down and I immediately started talking about what Josh and I were gonna do. "First, we're gonna go to Denny's for breakfast. Then, we're gonna go to the park and walk around until lunch. Then, we're gonna go to McDonald's for lunch. Then, we're gonna head out to Cedar Point and get on a few rides, and we'll be back by dinner," I explained.
"Wow, so romantic," Nattie said sarcastically.
"Shut up. That's all of our favorite places to go together. And it'll be nice to have a day all to ourselves. No students, no fans. Just us."
"Well, I can't guarantee no fans, but we'll keep it to a minimal," Josh said as he came down, Tyler in tow.
"That's totally ok with me," I said.
I got up, said goodbye to Nattie and Tyler, and followed Josh out the door. "Ok, off to Denny's," I said as we got in the car. Josh nodded, and we were off.
+++++++++++++++++++++++
The second we walked into Denny's, we were swarmed by fans. "Josh, who are you with?" one fan asked."Is this your girlfriend?" another asked.
"Yes, guys, this is my girlfriend Chloe, and please, let us have some time, because it's our anniversary and we're on a tight schedule," Josh said.
I smiled. "Babe, sign some autographs. I'll go sit down and order."
"Are you sure? It's our anniversary."
"I'm sure. When you date someone as famous as you, you get used to it."
He pulled me into a hug. "I'll be right there," he said, giving me a kiss on the top of my head.
I nodded. We separated, and I followed the waitress to a booth. I ordered a Coke for Josh and a Dr. Pepper for me. In about ten minutes, Josh was still signing autographs and talking to fans when the waitress came back. When she saw me staring at the crowd, she asked, "You a fan? You know you can probably go talk to him."
I smiled. "Actually, I live with him. I'm his girlfriend. It's our anniversary."
"Well, in that case, what will you guys be eating?"
"A double portion of biscuits and gravy please."
She wrote in down and nodded. "I'll be right out."
I nodded and smiled. A few minutes later, Josh finally came and sat down. "Babe, I'm so sorry. Look, no matter what, that will be the only time today. It's our anniversary."
I smiled. "Josh, I understand. You're the drummer of Twenty Øne Piløts. You're gonna get some fans now and then."
"Yeah, but you'll always be more important."
"I know."
He got up and came around the table to sit next to me. "I love you, you know that right?" he asked.
"Yeah, I know. I love you too."
As I leaned my head on his shoulder, the waitress came with our food. So we ate, and when we got done we walked out to the car hand-in-hand. I looked at the graying sky. "I think it's gonna rain."
"Yeah, it might. It's looking pretty cloudy."
"Well, we can still go to the park."
"Yeah, it's not raining yet."
So, we got in the car and drove toward our local park. But, because I have horrible luck when it comes to dates with Josh, as soon as we got five yards away from the car, it started pouring rain. "Eek! My jacket's in the car!" I screamed.
Josh took off his jacket and held it over my head. "Come on, let's get back to the car!"
So we ran to the car. By the time we got in, we were both soaking wet. "Why is it that every time we plan something like a date, something goes horribly wrong. Sorry babe," I said.
"It's fine. It was fun."
"Yeah, it was huh? Why don't we head home? Our plans are kinda ruined now."
"Yeah, that sounds like a good idea," said Josh as we left the park and headed home. And trust me, we were NOT expecting what was at home when we got there.
