A/N: Thank you all for sticking through my first book! It changed immensely from the early ideas I had, but I do love how it has turned out. I love the artwork done for the cover (artist's info is on a note on my page), and I fully plan to work with her for the next two books.
Yes, "The Unveiling" is finished! This is a teaser I put together for "Open War". It's not the very beginning of the book, but a scene I had an idea for. It focuses on the conflict and action that I plan to have steady throughout the whole book, leading into Book 3. I won't release the name of that one yet, because it will be a spoiler ;)
So, please - if you liked this book, keep an eye out for "Open War", which will be starting after Christmas. And as always, shares, comments, and votes are all greatly appreciated. If you enjoyed the story, please feel free to share a link to it on your social media, or to other fans on here as well! Ok, with no further stalling for time - here is the teaser for Open War!

Modern Magic Book 2: Open War (Teaser)
"Close your eyes and get ready." I didn't wait for any auditory response from the two kneeling next to me. I created a moving kinetic formation in the air outside the storage room. My eyes slipped shut as I could focus on the feeling of the magic. It sped up, whirling, spinning, and bouncing, transferring energy to the air molecules around it. Within a matter of seconds, hydrogen and oxygen molecules had separated from the rest of the normal constituents of the air we breathe. The pair of tactical teams closing in on our room had no warning before I flash-ignited the gas molecules, causing a giant burst of bright flame to light up the hallway. The night-vision goggles that were their strength instantly became their weakness. Cries of pain echoed through the hall as they were all suddenly blinded. "Move!" Isabelle and Ethan sprinted for the door with me following closely behind.
Once we exited the building, Isabelle and Ethan paused, uncertain where to go. As soon as I reached them, I heard Aki call out. "Here!" Our heads snapped towards her voice at the same time before I gave the two a guiding push. Crossing the lot, we reached a large storage container, empty of whatever it had been holding when it had arrived at the construction site. Aki gathered us all close in the back of the container before a kinetic barrier went up around us, forming an arc around the corner of the metal box. "Keep silent." Her ice blue eyes gazed at the three of us before closing as she focused on her formation.
I watched as the barrier seemed to shimmer. After a few seconds, the barrier had changed. Light from the entrance of the container was still visible, but it was wavy and indistinct, like looking through a waterfall. I could hear the quick, quiet breathing of all four of us as we waited. Voices echoed around outside; the container made the distance and direction impossible to determine as the sound waves bounced against the metal. Within a minute or so, a pair of lights suddenly spun around the sides of the opening, shining directly at us. Without any need for consensus, we all held our breath. The lights quickly flicked side to side and then up and down, across the whole internal surface of the container. The two members of the assault team were thorough - I'd give them that.
"Clear!" Just as quickly, the lights disappeared. If I had been the same man I was a year ago, I would have laughed. I had never been on the inside of an invisibility barrier before.
