So the next day I just decided to skip school and head to the park. Not like anyone would care enough to actually see me off to school anyways.

I just sat there, bored out of my mind with nothing to do. I really should’ve gone to school. But I just couldn’t. I can’t face people knowing that I looked so ugly. Black eyes, scratches… and then how can I face my cousins at school knowing that one of them is my rapist? I just—

My thoughts were cut off as someone sat next to me.

“So you decided to come to the park too?” Chris asked.

“Hey, Chris.” I said excitedly. Hopefully not to excited enough for him to notice.

“You didn’t answer my question.” He said.

“My bad. Yeah, I just couldn’t go.” I said. “…Now what you doing here?”

“I just had to clear my head. Like I was at school though but it just felt weird.” He said.

“Why?” I asked/

“Cause you I noticed you weren’t there. Like I know we haven’t known each other for a long time but just the way we talked yesterday made me feel like I’ve known you my whole life. You’re not just a piece of trash like your family treats you Chas, you’re special.” He explained.

“… Wow. No one has ever said that to me before.” I said.

“I meant every word.” He said.

Is this real? With him, I feel comfortable. Like he was sent to me in a way, I don’t know why I feel like this after one day but he just has this spirit about him that reminds me of my old life when my parents were alive. He makes me sane.

“Are you okay?” he asked.

“Yeah.” I lied.

“No you’re not, your demeanor is off.” He said.

“I’m fine Chris.” I said.

“No, you are not. Chas, don’t lie to me.” He said sternly.

“Alright fine.” I said annoyed.

“Now what’s wrong?” He asked again.

“Let’s just see, I have no family, after school Santiago made me walk home and we got into fight…” I said taking my glasses off, “… And oh yeah, Jose raped me last night. Anymore questions?” I said in a sad cheerful tone.

“He WHAT?! You know what? You know what? You’re spending the night with me tonight Ok? Just hell no!” Chris said angrily.

“Chris, calm down..” I said silently.

“How can you be so calm with a family who can care less than two shits about you? They abuse you every day. Are you serious right now, Chas? Get up.” He said.

“Where are we going?” I asked.

“Your house. You thought I was playing? We’re packing some of your things and you’re staying with me.” He said in more of a calmer tone.

It’s really amazing how he cared about me so much. I really miss him.

“Is your aunt home?” he asked walking towards the apartment door.

“No.” I said nonchalantly.

“Good, Now open the door.” He said.

As I opened the door it was complete silence. You can still see the blood stains in the carpet from the fight. As I looked around, I just vividly remembered every event that happened… The insults in the kitchen, the fight in the living room, and as we walked to my room…the rape… It’s just very emotional for me right now.
