Job At Risk and an Unexpected Solution

Life at McD was fun and equal to hell as well. We used to see a range of customers, from very good ones who were so polite to us to the most arrogant and wierd ones. I remember a few of such guests.

It was a very busy weekend. Saturday. Really, our restaurant was crowded and we people had to cater them with our One Minute Service or else there would be every second customer on the counter shouting, "Where is your Manager ? Call him !

To cater such a big crowd of people my crew members were moving in random directions in the kitchen and lobby as if they all were on the Titanic ship running here and there in panic. Every minute either I used to see one customer shouting at my ordertakers for the orders getting delayed or coming to me requesting to clean the coke that their kid spilt by mistake.

By 2 pm, my second shift crew members came and joined us and I opened all 4 billing Counters so that we can move the crowed quick. I placed one of the best performers at Counters to take the orders quick and the other best one at Non Veg kitchen as the demand for non veg was more than veg. Now, my restaurant was all set. Crew members at Lobby were making sure that Lobby is clean; the ones at billing counters made sure that orders are taken quick and the ones in kitchen made sure that the food production takes not more that one minute.

I was a bit relaxed. I went to my Cabin, sat down in front of the computer, started to check mails. I was a bit hungry also, so I called one of my crew members.

Me : Stephen ! Stephen !

Stephen: Yes Sir!

Me : Can you please get me one Veg Burger with cheese ?

Stephen: Sure, just a minute !

Stephen got the burger for me, I sighed and unwrapped the burger. I opened my mouth and was just about to take the first bite and heck, I heard a customer shouting ! My hunger was gone !

Stephen came running towards me.

Stephen : Sir one guest is calling the Manager.

Me : Let him, what does he want ? Huh these people will never let me have my share of food peacefully.

I reached the counter and saw a bald guy standing at the reception and shouting.

He : Who is the manager here?

I walked towards him and replied, I am the manager here sir, please tell me how can I help you ?

He : Come with me, I've got something to show you.

I kept quiet and walked with him towards the table where he and his colleagues were sitting. I reached closer and saw just one burger kept exactly in the centre of the table.

He asked me to unwrap the burger.

I unwrapped the burger and clueless I looked at that bald guy.

He said, "Remove the bun placed on the top."

I got scared and called one of my crew members and asked him to get disposable gloves as we were not authorized to touch the Food with bare hands. I removed the bun and to my surprise I saw a small cockroach lying on the veg patty.

I was shocked and within 3 seconds my body got drenched in sweat completely.

Suddenly a similar incident which occurred in another McD of our city came to my mind. There also one group of friends complained about a cockroach in the burger and later on the Restaurant Manager's were harassed by the group as they called local media and politicians and demanded big amounts as bribe to close the matter. Later on we came to know that they were bloody brand teasers, it was there job to visit popular restaurants, sit there, order for a cheap meal, find a place which is not under CCTV surveillance area, put an insect inside the food product and complain about it and then demand money in order to close the matter

I was so damn scared. Speechless, I looked at that bald guy and did the same which was taught to me as a Standard Operating Procedure, and it was to Apologize!

I apologized and said, " Sir ! I am extremely sorry for this, I am shocked to see this, I am gonna check my kitchen right away, also I will fire the crew member who prepared this immediately. Also I am gonna replace the meal right now and it will be complimentary for all of you."

I was thinking in my mind, what the hell I am doing here, mistake was committed by my crew member and I have to face the customer, next thought which came to my mind was, "How did this bloody cockroach come here? How come these 4 people just ordered a Single burger ? Did they want to cut it into four and share it ? Why just one burger?"

It was suspicious. I knew that even I will be harassed today and will have to face media and these cheap politicians unnecessarily! I felt like quitting my job right away and to get vanished from the spot. I was just waiting for a miracle to happen to save me.

He Replied, " We are neither interested in your Apologies nor we want free food. You just tell me how are you going to compensate for this?".

I replied, "Sir, I am only authorised to get this replaced by any other food product available here regardless of It's cost."

He Said, "We know what to do, just wait and watch, I am gonna call the media right now."
I requested him not to do so but he wasn't ready to listen to me. He called someone and asked him to reach the restaurant with cameras and other people !

I thought now this is the end of my carrier. Frankly speaking I never liked much to work at McD, I was there just because I wanted to get some good experience and become a Successful restaurant manager with a handsome salary package so that I can go in front of my girlfriend's parents and ask them to let me marry her.

Since food safety issue is so damn serious in food industry this incident made me realise as if this is almost the end of my career as well as my love life.

I thought, " Today my restaurant will face loss of goodwill, I will be terminated from job, where will I join next ? What will I answer if the new company management will ask my reason for job change, what reason will I give, what document will I provide to new company as all I will be having a termination letter, what will I tell my girlfriend Jiya, I will have to start my new job from scratch again, how will I convinced her parents, why would she like to live with a loser like me who doesn't even have a secure job ?" Well, all these thoughts tore me apart. I was shuddered due to fear.

I was praying in my heart, "God ! Please save me !"

Only a miracle could have saved me from that issue.

Suddenly I got an Idea! My brain commanded me to do it but my heart said not to, as the step I was going to take was neither good for my heart nor for my body.
