Anamika's Call

I saw the Morning shift incharge Kritika entering the manager's cabin. She wished me Good Morning, I just looked at her, handed over all the keys to her and left. I reached home. Took some money, went to nearest bar, got two quarters of Rum, came home, took bath, wore new clothes and started to drink.

After one quarter, I had a little hangover, my phone rang, well it was an unknown number. I didn't pick the call as I was not in the mood to talk to anyone.
Bloody mobile phone rang again, I picked this time assuming that maybe someone is in need and wants to talk to me.

I heard a very sweet, a little high pitched voice of a lady.

She : Hi Neeraj, this is Anamika calling from Career Consultancy.
Me : Okay ! (Took another sip)
(Her voice was simply irresistible, dammit !)
She : Are you looking for a job change ?
Me : No, not at this moment. (Took another sip)

She : Oh okay, (I felt as if she smiled and said, "oh okay") Neeraj we have an opening for Cafe Coffee day as a Cafe Manager, do you have any references of people who are looking for a job?
Me : No, Sorry I don't have any references ! Actually ma'am I am fed up of working here at McDonaldz, I don't want to work in Quick Service Restaurants anymore, if you have any opening in some other field then please do let me know!

And call got disconnected ! :(

I saw my phone screen and it said "Call Dropped". I hated my cellular network.

I called back on the same number but I heard IVR Saying, "This call can not be completed"

Maybe it is their office number and it allows only outgoing calls.

I waited for a few seconds and was expecting her call back, but no luck.

Damn, I loved that voice ! I had my leftover drink thinking of her mesmerising voice.

Oh God why did the call disconnect, she might be thinking that I am rude as I disconnected after saying what I wanted to say. But I didn't disconnect!
From where did she get my contact, She said so many things and I just replied in a few words, God, She offered a job and I replied like a dead man, she asked for reference also, I should have given Rakesh's number to her.

After two quarters were over I felt a little sleepy, slept off.
After a few hours I heard someone knocking the door and calling my name, I got up, opened the door and saw one of our delivery boys, John.

I asked, "What happened ?"
He : Sir, see what's the time now ? 7 pm.

Me: Oh God, who is running the shift till now ?
He: Sir Kritika is still there waiting for you to come and take shift handover.
I kept quiet for sometime and thought, "Oh God, her shift got over at 4 pm itself but she is still waiting in the restaurant just because I did not join my shift. I felt so sorry.

I told John to wait for a few minutes. I went inside, washed my face, wore my uniform, locked the door and reached my restaurant with the Delivery bike itself.

I expressed my sorrow to Kritika and took keys from her as a part of shift handover. I told her to leave quickly as it was already very late. Also I told her that you can come 4 hours late tomorrow morning.

She waived her hand, said Goodbye and Left.

I started to run my shift and sooner it was time to close the restaurant.

After finishing all the pending works I again took my phone out and started to check all missed calls. There were some 28 missed calls. I started to check one by one, 17 calls were from Kritika to call me for shift, 8 calls from Restaurant landline, 1 call from Jiya and 2 missed calls from some Anamika, Career Consultancy.

Well, Kritika must have called me 17 times as I didn't reporter to restaurant on time; Jiya must have called to settle down the argument, but only one call ?? Huh if I would have been in her place I would have called until I get to talk to my partner and settle down the argument.

Anyway, I was shocked to see call from the same career consultancy.

I was wondering who called from Career consultancy, maybe same lady Anamika; maybe she got a new job offer for me ?

I simply saved that number as who knows when will I get thrown out of McDonaldz and would need a new job !

Finished all day end reports and slept on my lavish bed, the sofa kept in lobby !
