Chapter Six
Jane ran back home as fast as her feet could carry her when Silvio told her he was on his way with the contract. She also might have hung up on him by mistake, but there was no helping that, and she just needed to be there before he got there.
She wasn't in the best of shape, considering one of her past times was sitting down in her chair for hours and hours on end writing up character sheets and chapters for her upcoming books. Those activities didn't exactly make her a top jogger.
She still made it back to her apartment with minimal sweat and puffing for breath. She tapped on the elevator button about twenty times before the doors spread open for her and she stepped inside.
There was no telling there he was. He could be five minutes out, or he could be just pulling up.
She made it to her floor and flew to her door, struggling with her keys for a few long seconds before she finally, finally, managed to get the damned thing open.
She'd kicked off her work shoes and was nearly naked when her phone buzzed. She picked it up reading the text on the way into her bathroom.
I'm here. Can you let me in?
Here? Already? Shit.
Jane sent a quick text for him to buzz her door. She let him in when he did, and she jumped into the stall for the fasted shower she'd ever had in her whole life.
Jane barely let her hair get wet, scrubbed her hands over her body to get rid of the coffee smell, and yanked her yellow towel off the top of the glass door when she jumped out, nearly slipping on the tile as she ran to her room for something to wear.
Two minutes. She had two minutes before he came up here. She grabbed the first thing her hands touched in her closet when she opened it, which was a white floral dress that stopped midway down her thighs. She loved the way this dress looked on her during the hot summer months, and while it wasn't exactly fitting this time of year, she didn't have time to grab something else. There was a knock at her door just as she shimmied the thing on.
"Just a second," she called, pulling the straps over her shoulders.
Fuck, she didn't pick out a bra. Did she have time for panties? What if Silvio thought she wasn't wearing them on purpose?
She fluffed her hair in the mirror. She was just going to have to go for the casual waves look. No time for moisturizer or foundation, so she settled for a quick layer of mascara and lipstick, which turned out to be the reddest shade she had in her makeup bag.
Great. Now she really looked like she was asking for it.
Jane rushed to the front door, grabbed a pair of black ballet flats since she absolutely was not going to wear heels with this dress, checked herself out in the mirror to make sure the back of the dress wasn't messed up in a way that left her ass sticking out, prayed it wouldn't be too obvious she wasn't wearing anything beneath it, smiled, and opened the door.
Silvio smiled back at her. "Nice to see you again."
Goddamn, he looked too good in a gray suit standing there. Of course he had on another green tie, but this time the pattern was a bit different. He almost took up the whole doorway, and his hair was slicked with some sort of gel that made it shine, and made him look all the more dashing.
Dashing was definitely the appropriate word to be using here.
"Hey," Jane replied, clearing her throat when she realized she still sounded out of breath.
