Travis's POV
-=+=-My senses came back when Zane was snapping his fingers in my face.
"Travis!""H-Huh..? Wh-What?"
Zane stared at me, waiting. "I-I'm sorry, I zoned out.. Wh-What were you saying?"
"Bah, forget about it, it's fine."
"You sure?"
He nodded, wringing out the wet rag he was using to finish off the already clean dishes. "OCD much?" Zane rolled his eyes.
"I must make them shine."
"Really? But they're.." he playfully hit me with the rag. I was standing at the counter watching him 'shine' the dishes.
I'd help, but you already shooed me off for 'shining then wrong,'" I said, laughing. He smiled, and looked back.
"It's because you did shine them wrong! You can't use a scratchy paper towel! You should use a soft rag like this one."
"Mhmm, okay."
"Seriously, though! Oh damn it, will you answer my phone, please?" I nodded and walked over to the table where his phone was ringing. "It's 'Mom', are you sure I should answer it..?" Zane's eyes widened. "Er... You can, but beware, she... can get a little giddy at times." I nodded.
"ZuZu-- wait, this isn't my little ZuZu!" My ears were ringing from the sharp squeal she gave. "H-Hello ma'am, uh--"
Zane dried his hands and walked over, grabbing the phone where 'Mom' started growling, "Who are you and why do you have my baby's phone?! I swear to God if you hurt him I will find you and tort--"
"MOM! Mom, calm the heck down! My friend answered the phone for me because I was washing the dishes, don't freak out..!" He sighed. "ZuZu! Hi sweetie.." I heard from the phone. That was all I decided to listen to, so I went to grab the rag he was using, and started scrubbing the dishes like he had been doing.
"Wh-What? Okay, I'm on my way.. love you mom." Zane said in a rush. "Hey, do you mind locking up the house for me? I have to go.." Zane said, grabbing his sweater and keys.
"I'll come with you if you need me to," I offered. He shook his head.
"I have to run up to the hospital, I'm sorry - but I'm sure they'll only let family in." He said quickly, the front door swiftly slamming shut. I sighed, the cold air from outside hitting me.
"...What better time to go through your friends room?"

Zane's POV
-=+=-"He's in room R428, sir. It's in the Cornelius's towers, the fourth floor. Have a blessed day."
Great. That was just what I needed to hear. A 'blessed day' may not be possible if he doesn't wake up.
"I'm here..." I whispered solemnly. There were two nurses in the room, my mother, Zianna -who was holding my father's hand-, and my father laying silently on the bed. His eyes were shut, and his mouth just barely open from the intubation tube that I assumed the nurses put down his throat. It was to help you breath when you can't on your own, either from surgery or an emergency. It's supposed to get air into your throat and lungs. He had been in a very, very bad car wreck, his face had bad burn marks, along with his hands. I didn't really know how to react in these situations, so I walked over to my mom and awkwardly offered to hug her. She wouldn't let go of father's hand, but buried her face in my shoulder, crying.
I couldn't say that I wasn't worried, but I wasn't very emotional in these situations.
It was like something in me had been turned off when I was younger... The thing was, my thoughts filled with the "what if's" of the situation. I realized something that could happen to him, and almost teared up. But I held back my tears and promised myself I'd stay strong for mom, who was already broken into sobs. I managed to overhear the nurses talking to each other while they worked, in hushed whispers."So the car caught on fire during the crash?"
"Yes. He rammed into the utility pole, which was already leaning, and it fell more, sending a few wires loose, that made contact with a conductor in the car - that set it on fire."
"And the other driver...?"
"The truck that caused the crash rolled into the ditch, killing the driver in it when he was ejected halfway out the window."
"Oh. Okay. Guess I heard Jasmine wrong."
I stopped listening to them and squeezed my mother a little tighter, and she didn't seem to care."V-Fib! Hit the code, grab the cart!" A nurse exclaimed. Mom jolted out of my arms and looked terrified. "Sir, Ma'am, I'm sorry but we're going to need to have you both out of the room right now." She ushered us out into the hallway, shutting the door.
"I'm so sorry dad.. I'm so sorry..."
Well fudge. That got sadder than I had intended. Sowwy..
