"It looks like it's just you and me, buddy."

Without a backward glance, the feline swished its tail and padded out of the room.

Flopping back onto the couch, I threw my arms behind my head before releasing a tired groan. "I guess it's just me then."

This may come as somewhat of a surprise to all, but I wasn't used to living on my own.

Sure, growing up, I had to share a room with a younger brother, but the moment I got out of that situation and moved into the dorms in college, I was living with either a roommate, or a girlfriend. I was never alone.

Since turning the ripe age of eighteen so many years ago, my life immediately began to tumble downhill. I fell into one rocky relationship after the other, constantly dating, constantly ending in tears and heartache. On their part, mostly.

College was hell. Senior year was the best year of my life because I didn't care what I did. Graduation was so close, and it came and went. Just like everything else in my life.

I'm twenty-six now and I'm alone. Without a roommate, or a girlfriend, there's no one to control my life–or keep me in line. Good or bad?

At least,

I was alone.
