Saying Goodbye

We walked silently down the hall after that.

Did I predict Sky and Jack's death? Why them? Was that.... no. It couldn't have been. It couldnt have been their future. No way. I would never kill Jack. Or Sky.

"She's in there," Mark said. "You can go in a alone if you'd like."

"Come in with me. Please," I answered.

We walked (I limped) into the room. In the hospital bed, my deceased bff lay with no heartbeat. I began to cry. I put my face into Mark's chest and soaked his shirt with tears. He began to cry too. Then the radio came on:

It started out as feeling
Which then grew into a hope
Which then turned into a quiet thought
Which then turned into a quiet word

And then that word grew louder and louder
Til it was a battle cry
I'll come back
When you call me

No need to say goodbye

"Oh shut up." I said clicking the off button, "All I need know is for that stupid song to come on."

I found the strength to walk again and then left the room.

Narrator's point of view

Sam was upset. She looked angry just to hide her tears from everyone else. Everyone except... Mark. Sam truly loved him, but she also truly loved Jack. Both Jack and Mark loved Sam but Sam doesn't know what to do. Is she to love Mark and break Jack's heart or love Jack and break Mark's heart? Or will she just forget them both?

Jack's point of view

"Sam?" I asked as she walked by the chair I sat in.

I stood up and followed her, though she did not speak.

"Sam... I know you're upset. Just don't be so wrapped up in tears that you shut the world out," she stopped.

She didn't turn around, but she stopped. No words.

"Jack. I had a dream. A dream where I shot you and Sky drowned in a lake. The voices around me, after Sky drowned, they said things like 'You have no one,' 'You cannot save him,' 'You cannot help him' and 'You cannot love him.' This was when I held a gun to your head. I'm afraid that this may be the future." She said, still not turning to face me.

"Sam, you would never do that." I put my hand on her shoulder, trying to turn her around.

She didn't budge. So I stood in front of her.

"I know. That's what scares me."

She looked past me. As if I weren't there. As if I was a ghost. A hologram. Non-existent.

"Sam. Look in my eyes. Make me know that you know I'm here."

She looked into my eyes for a split second, then looked away. I hugged her and whispered, "If it makes you feel any better, you should be with Mark. He needs you and loves you way more than I do. I live you forever and always, but Mark deserves you more."
