Chapter 20

The Hospital Room (Part 2)

John's P.O.V

I feel terrible. Here I am wondering when the next chance for me to try to fuck Alexander. Burr's wondering if his girlfriend is even going to live.

Right now the three of us were crammed into a small taxi on the way to the hospital. Me and Burr got the window seats, with Alexander between us.

"Explain again what happened", Alex says.

Burr takes a shaky breath and begins.

"Ok. Theo has been feeling under the weather lately. I begged her to go the doctor but she refused to because........ reasons. Anyway, earlier today when we were at the lounge I had to leave to go check on her. When I showed up she had had a huge fever and was barely conscious. I rushed her to the nearest hospital. I came to  you guys because I didn't really have anywhere else to turn to", Burr explains.

"Aaron. You and I both know that  we've had our differences. That's obvious. But I want you to know that John and I are both here for you", Alex says. He elbows me in the side and I nod quickly in agreement.

For the rest of the ride we sit in silence, until we pull up to the hospital. We enter the tall glass doors and head toward the front desk.

"Hello, are you here to see a patient?", asks the man behind the counter.

Burr mumbles something quietly to the man.

The man turns to his counter and types quickly on the computer.

"Go to the 6th floor 1746, room. It is clear for you to go up, but the patient will probably be resting", he says.

Aaron nods and we head up stairs using the elevator. When we arrive at floor 16 we searched for her room number.

We find it, but before we can go in, Burr stops walking.

"You good?", I ask.

"Yeah, I'm good. I just........ Nevermind", he sighs.

He grips the handle and slowly turns it.

Burr's P.O.V

I hadn't realized that I had been holding my breath as I entered the room. I saw her and suddenly my lungs are filled with air as a take breath of relief.

She is asleep in the hospital bed. There is a tube in her arm, pumping liquid into her.

Suddenly I'm washed with a wave a nausea. I stumbled backwards but Alexander and John catch me and help me into a chair.

"It's going to be ok. I promise", says Alex.

"But what if it isn't?", I ask. "What am I going to do if she doesn't make it. She is the reason I wake up in the morning. She is my will to live. Without her, I'm helpless", I say.

"Aaron, I understand", Alexander says.

"No you don't! I lost both my parents, and now I'm going to loose  the only person keeping me alive. The knowledge that some one as perfect as Theo promises to love me just blows my mind. How would you know what it feels like to loose your everything?", I say bitterly.

"I lost my everything when I was twelve", he says. "My mom. She and I were both sick. I got better but...... my mother went quick. She was beautiful, my mother. She had eyes you could get lost in and a smile so bright it could make the most unbearable days bearable. Simply by smiling. Two years before her death my dad left. I could tell it hurt her heart terribly. Eventually she just gave up the will to live."
