"In grade nine we hated each other"

"... And like up to grade nine we used to absolutely hate each other," Luke laughed while repeating the old story for gazillionth time in another one of their interviews. "Can you believe that? I mean we can hardly live without each other now!" He smiled, his dimples showing.
"I don't know what you're talking about," Michael scoffed from the other end of the sofa, "I mean I still hate you."
He cracked a small smile when the other boys and the interviewer started laughing, but Luke stayed awfully quiet for the rest of the time. He knew Michael was joking didn't he?
Michael was still wondering when they got into the back of the van.
"Hey boys," Liz waved from behind the wheel. "How did it go?"
Ashton and Calum started excitedly talking over each other trying to be the one who tells the story as Liz backed out of the parking lot.
Benefits of Luke having over protective mum, free transport, Michael thought, cons: she worries too much.
Her eyes scanned over them in the rear view mirror and rested over her son, "Luke, honey you are really quite, are you okay?"
"Yeah mum. Just tired." He said in a soft voice, a pout evident on his face.
Liz nodded and concentrated on the road.
Ashton giggled at something Calum had said.
Michael looked at Luke with concern.
He sighed.
Of course. For the first time, Luke was coming out of his shell, actually talking in an interview and Michael just had to bloody ruin it for him because he couldn't keep his stupid loud mouth shut. No wonder Luke used to hate him. He is such an idiot who spoils everything.
He looked at his best friend, he sat with his blond head pressed against the window, eyes closed, ear phones plugged in. He was such an angel, Michael thought, he didn't deserve to be unhappy, he mentally punched himself and made a note to apologise to Luke later.
As he examined the blond boy's every feature in detail (because he was the most interesting thing on the entire ride, not that Michael was a creep. Nope. Not at all.) his mind started drifting towards all the memories he had with him.

Luke had always been such a good kid. Straight A student, always on the top, ahead on his homework. Fine his mother was a teacher but still. God! How Michael had hated his guts. Especially when he realised that the chubby nerd with blond hair and the brightest blue eyes was better than him in music class.
Honestly it was just jealousy that had made him hate Luke so much, and because Calum was his best friend, he had to hate Luke too.
He remembered how he had begged with a genuinely surprised Calum to join Luke's band.
Michael laughed now at their childish stupidity, it had kept him away from the awesomest person ever.
He recalled Luke's words from about an year ago when he had asked why he had hated him, "I never really hated you Mikey, it's just that you were absolutely annoying and an idiot. Not to mention that you were popular." Luke had explained to him while giggling.
He wouldn't say that he was popular or anything but he did have like two more friends than Luke. But the annoying idiot part was right on point. Hell he still was one, he wondered what changed Luke's mind.
Well that didn't matter anymore, because he was certain that Luke hated him again. All because he was an idiotic jerk.
Michael sighed. His eyes wandering all over Luke's peaceful face. He had to talk to him. Soon. He couldn't just loose him. But that would have to wait until they reach the hotel. So he let his mind roam around.
He looked at Liz who was frowning a bit as she wove through the traffic, then at Cal and Ash, cuddling into each other and smiled. Then he looked back at Luke as he practised in his head what he was going to say. He really didn't want to mess this up.

A/N

Finally, chapter one finished.
Okay so guys. That was over 600 words and if you liked it, please bare with me for a long author's note as well.
First of all, thanks for reading, this means a lot to me.
Secondly I am writing/publishing after a three year hiatus so the writing skills are a bit rusty, I promise it will get better.
Thirdly, I am kind of a lazy arse but don't give up on me, I will try to update as soon as possible, but I don't have a schedule. It really depends on my mood.
Fourthly, the story is set over 2012-14, with some flashbacks. I will try to keep it fast paced and realistic so there'd be time skips obviously.
Fifthly (I'm surprised that's even a word) this book will have a sequel because the whole story couldn't be contained in this book, especially if I want to stick with the theme.
Sixthly, thanks again. Vote, comment, the usual deal.
All the love.
