Ryan sat up at 3AM to figure out what made the thud that awoke him.

"Kiara?" He yelled as he staggered into the living room.

"Yesh?" Ryan looked down, Kiara's face was squished against the floor.

"What happened this time?" He grumbled.

"I was giving the floor a hug." She explained. "It looked lonely." The old man rolled his eyes at the girl.

"Here," He offered her his hand. "Let me help you up." Kiara looked at the man's hand for a second before proclaiming a stubborn no.

"I can get up myself." She grumbled.

"Kiara, I don't think—" Ryan was stopped mid sentence and sat there staring.

"What?"

"You—Your s—standing—but, your legs—" He stammered. "Your—How are you standing?"

"With my legs?" Kiara stared at the man bewildered by his behaviour.

"But, the doctors said—"

"The doctors said I wouldn't wake up, and I'm still here." Kiara pointed out.

"The muscles in your legs had wasted away, you shouldn't be able to walk, let alone stand." He cried exasperated.

The grungy apartment suddenly became so quiet and still, you could have heard a pin drop. Kiara crumbled to the ground.

"What?!"

•••

Kiara sat in front of the mirror, her face looked different, an ugly red scar went over her right eye and down to her chin. She sobbed, her right eye would never be the same, the only eye that would ever work for her would be on her left. She shut her right eyelid and opened it again, there was no difference at all, it was as if she were wearing an eyepatch.

Mountain Lion.

Her mind hissed at her. "Mountain lion." She whispered.

Wolf.

She snorted. "Wolves aren't in California." She told herself. "It couldn't have been—"

Screech! Bang! Roar!

A growl ripped through the air, followed by two screams of pain from Kiara's parents. The screams stopped. Kiara looked up and screamed, in front of her stood a wolf like creature. It's eyes glowed red—

Werewolf. Werewolf. Werewolf.

Kiara grunted and clutched the basin, knuckles turning white. She panted.

Werewolf.

"Shut up!" She roared.

•••

Ryan rushed to the bathroom after hearing his niece's scream and a smashing sound come from inside the room.

"Kiara?" He called, looking around. Glass shards from a smashed mirror lay on the ground, gusts of air filled the room. He turned his attention towards the open window. His brow furrowed. Claw marks ran down the curtains.

"Kiara?!" He stuck his head out the window and called out for the girl. The sky was pitch black, a full moon large and round in the sky.
