"WHAT!?! You want me to what?!"
Kakashi shook his head. "Maa Maa Naruto, weren't you listening? I said I want you to ride on Sasukes back until we get to the campsite, we still have another two hours of hiking."
"Why does the dobe have to ride on my back?" Sasuke scowled. Why did that dead last have to ride on his back? The idiot hurt himself by not paying attention.
"Out of the whole team, you two have the worst teamwork. Besides team work is the reason we're going camping." Kakashi smiled, or what they thought was a smile. They couldn't tell through the mask.
"Hn." Sasuke grunted.
"I don't need that bastards help!" 'Like he would even help someone like me anyway', Naruto thought sullenly.
Sasuke noticed Naruto's sudden change in facial expression and he let out a barely audible sigh. Even if the moron was annoying as hell, he was still his teammate and the closest thing he had to a friend.
"Fine. Dobe get on." Sasuke snapped.
Naruto's cerulean eyes widened to the size of dinner plates. Sasuke was actually helping him!
Sasuke tapped his foot impatiently. "Hurry up before I change my mind."
Naruto frantically tried to stand, making sure not to put any pressure on his ankle before limping over to where Sasuke was hunched over, waiting. He had some trouble climbing on to his back because of the height difference, Sasuke was at least a good five inches taller than him.
Sasuke hooked both of his hands under the younger boy's thighs. Kakashi had volunteered to hold both the boys packs, strapping them both onto the back of his, making him look slightly like a deranged turtle.
Sasuke had noticed how light the boy was. He was no medic-nin, but he knew the blond boy weighed a lot less than he should. He also noted how slim and boney each of his limbs were. 'Has Naruto always been this small?'.
He kind of liked it, the feel of another human this close. Even if it was a complete and total idiot.
~
Soft snores filled his ear. Naruto had fallen asleep thirty minutes after his injury. Sasuke blushed a bit as the smaller boy snuggled closer to his source of heat. Naruto had buried his face into the crook of Sasuke's neck and was now mumbling a few incoherent words here and there, his arms were wrapped tightly under Sasuke's arms.
Sasuke had decided that he liked having Naruto this close. He didn't know if that a applied to just the blond or human contact in general, having been deprived of that since his brother wiped out his clan. Fangirls didn't count, they had no sense of personal space or boundaries for that matter. He still had nightmares about a couple that got way to close for comfort. He gave a slight shudder just thinking about it.
His attention turned to the whiskered boy. He was whimpering. Why was he whimpering?
He felt Naruto's hold on him tighten. "No p-please, I d-didn't-...." The younger boys voice was muffled as he dug his head deeper into Sasuke's neck.
'A nightmare?'
The raven felt bad for the blond. He had had his fair share of nightmares. He felt a sudden urge to stop, sit down and cradle the boy in his arms. Tell him everything's going to be okay. 'What am I thinking? This is dobe we're talking abo-'
"I'm n-not a m-monster." It was barely audible but he heard it, clear as day. 'What? Not a monster? Why would he think-'
"Sasuke w-what? Where are we?" Naruto lifted his head to get a better view of the area, not because he was blushing like a tomato from the position he awoke in. That wasn't it.
Sasuke found his neck suddenly freezing at the loss of heat. "We're almost there dobe. Just go back to sleep, your too loud." Smirking to himself as the blond hesitantly laid his head back down.
He had come to the conclusion, after hour of mulling it over, that it was just the blue-eyed boy he liked to be near. Wether it was egging him on for a fight, sparring, or eating at Ichirakus (always being dragged there by Naruto). The ball of sunshine always seemed to brighten his day or at least make it exciting and eventful, the boy wasn't Konoha's number one unpredictable nuckleheaded ninja for nothing.
Sasuke almost smiled. 'Besides he's adorable'  He froze. Wait! What?! He did not just think of that idiot as adorable!
Said idiot lifted his head. "Teme, why'd you stop?" He mumbled tiredly.
The rest of the group ahead of him stopped in front of an lush spacious clearing.
"Alright you cute little genin! This will be your home for the next two weeks." Kakashi smiled and put his hands out in a open gesture, facing the rest of the group. He put his hands down and stuck his nose back into his little orange book, occasionally giggling pervertedly.
The group of teens scouted the area out, looking for the best spot to put their tents.
Asuma took out a slip of paper and began to read out loud. "Okay so, Ino and Sakura will share a tent. Hinata and Tenten, Kiba and Shino, Neji and Lee, Sasuke and Naruto, and Shikamaru and Choji. Get with your tentmate and start to pitch your tents."
Sakura screeched. "WHAT?! I have to share with Ino-pig!? Why can't I be with Sasuke-kun?!"
"I'm not happy about this either billboard brow!" Ino huffed.
             "What did you call me!?"
Everyone sweatdropped as both girls miraculously argued and put up their tent at the same time.
"YOSH!! COME ON MY YOUTHFUL TEAMMATE, I WILL PITCH THIS TENT IN THIRTY SECONDS AND IF I CAN NOT DO THAT I WILL PITCH EVERYONES TENT AND IF I CANT DO THAT I WILL-"
Neji scoffed at his teammate. "That's stupid. You can't pitch a tent in thirty seconds. Fate will not allow it!"
Shikamaru sighed. "What a drag. Watching clouds would be less troublesome."
"Come on Shikamaru. We can watch clouds after the tents up." Choji said, in between bites of chips.
Tenten tugged gently on Hinata's wrist. "Come on Hinata. I want to get the best spot!"
"O-okay." Hinata muttered, trailing Tenten.
"Could we not pitch the tent on that anthill. They are my subordinates." Shino said, standing in front of Kiba while Akumaru ran around yipping and smelling random areas.
"Uh, ya man! Sorry I didn't know!" Kiba yelled offhandedly as he ran off to play with Akumaru.
Sasuke walked up to spot between two trees. He gently sat Naruto down in the soft green grass next a tall tree. "Hn, dobe. I'll pitch the tent."
"Okay." Naruto mumbled dazed as he picked some daisies while Sasuke went to grab their packs from Kakashi. 'I know I'm safe now that I'm away from the village, but I can't help think that something's gonna go wrong. Was spraining my ankle a bad omen? No it couldn't be. I'm just paranoid.'
~
Sasuke finished pitching the tent and looked over to Naruto. The smaller boy had made a flower crown of daisies and was now wearing it while sitting against the tree. The raven thought it was cute, no denying it.
He had been quiet the whole time. Even before he sprained his ankle, the blond had been uncharacteristically quite. It slightly worried Sasuke. Naruto just looked weird without his usual smile. He missed his smile.
