"It's more then just hunting." Jon's voice was strong and clear.
"It's picking out the fatter one of them all." A rough voice spoke from the left.
There were numerous chuckles, including Jon's, I kept my eyes on Jon's fury coat. The color's were so soft and mesmerizing, like a young dog's fur.
"It's learning how it moves. You need to predict it's next steps." Jon explained, however I knew how to hunt. I grew up watching the best huntsmen of them all hunt, the only difference is, they didn't hunt animals.
Jon's body stiffened pulling the reins causing the horse to stop. The others stopped dead in their tracks, getting off the horses one by one as quietly as possible.
"Stay here." Jon whispered, following the rest of the men sliding off the horse and retrieving something from the man he hugged earlier. It looked like a small knife, the rest of the men started making there way over a small hill, quietly. It looked as if they were barefoot walking on broken glass.
Soon I was alone, with five horse's munching on loose spots of grass. I was thankful we weren't this far along the trail the opposite side. My eye's shot up as I heard multiple hoofs cantering, I swung off the horse letting my bare feet touch the floor. The ground vibrated beneath my feet, I looked around and saw the the five horses remain calm, eating, it was coming from the direction the men went.
I noticed there was a bow and a few arrows connected to the saddle of the horse Jon and I rode. Without thinking I took the bow and one arrow, making my way in the direction they went. I stopped at the top of the small hill as I saw five men camouflaged in some dark bushes, in the distance I saw a deer, a rather large deer, but they seemed to be eyeing up the one closer and more easier to kill. I crouched down resting the arrow on the bow before pulling back the string, tightly, aiming the arrow at the smaller one.
The bigger one, it's just as easy.
I took in a deep breath changing the angle so it was aimed towards the bigger one down the hill. The options ran through head. If i wanted to get the deer confidently I would need to aim between two men that were barely apart, or I could aim over them and most likely miss it.
I suck in a breath, elbow strong, aim, then let go of the string breathing out. The arrow shot perfectly in between the men, straight into the bigger deer causing in to collapse and the other deer cantered away. Five pairs of eyes looked up at me, eyes wide open.
First option it is.
