It was a bright, clear New York day. Seagulls swooping overhead, the sea sprayed onto the boat, missing the male by a mere few feet.
Newton Scamander, weather-beaten, was wearing his normal old blue overcoat. Beside him rested a battered brown leather case. The left latch on the case flicked open of its own accord. Newt swiftly bent down and closed the lock, pulling the case onto his lap he leaned in, whispering.
"Dougal- you settle down now, please. It won't be long."
The lid of the case pushed up roughly as though someone hit it. That someone was me.
"It's not Dougal- it's me!" I called out, standing on the middle rungs of the ladder in the small building. I felt the lid fall downward, and knew that Newt had rested his arms and head down upon it.
"We're not somewhere safe for you to come out yet, Alice," He whispered. "Please be patient."
I groaned, hitting the lid again, hearing him chuckle as I climbed down the ladder. I sat down on the bed in the corner of the small... er... cottage? House? It's more of a hut, really.
The ground shook as Newt probably stood up and began walking among bustling crowds as he got off the boat. I fell off the bed as he dropped the case in his hurry.
"Hey!" I called out, standing up and climbing up to the lid. "Precious cargo Newt!" I put my ear up to the lid and realized he was at customs. I quickly grabbed the makeshift 'box' that held certain items. I listened in.
"British, huh?"
"Yes," Newt replied, and just from hearing his tone, I could tell he wasn't making eye contact with the Customs Official.
"Anything edible in there?"
"No."
"Livestock?"I accidentally flicked opened the lock by leaning on the wall.
"Must get that fixed... ahh, no." Newt said, answering the previous question."Let me take a look."
Newt placed the case on the desk between the two of them and I nearly fell off the ladder. Newt discreetly flicked a brass dial which showed me a sign: MUGGLEWORTHY
I held up the box to the lid just as the man opened it. Between the pajamas, various maps, my journal, an alarm clock, a magnifying glass, and Newt's Hufflepuff scarf, the man was finally satisfied and closed the case. I placed the box down and held onto the ladder as Newt took the case and began walking.
Even I could hear the shouting from inside the case. It grew louder, telling me that Newt had walked up to it.
"... this great city sparkles with the jewels of man's invention! Movie theaters, automobiles, the wireless, electric lights- all dazzle and bewitch us!"The case shook as Newt bumped into someone, a sorry eliciting itself from his lips.
"But where there is light there is shadow, friend. Something is stalking our city, wreaking destruction and the disappearing without a trace..." The woman continued, "We have to fight- join us, the Second Salemers, in our fight!"
The entire case thundered with sound. The sound of someone tripping over it as everything nearly fell from the shelves, myself falling from the ladder with a thud and a groan.
"I'm so sorry, my case...""No harm done-"
The ruckus outside the case attracted the woman's attention to Newt, however.
"You, friend! What drew you to our meeting today?"
I snickered as Newt tried to respond.
"Oh... I was just... passing.""Are you a seeker? A seeker after truth?" I laughed at Newts response. After all, I was the Seeker between us two players.
"I'm more of a chaser, really."
I heard a shuffle. As the lid to the case closed, I looked up to see a pink leg slip out of sight. I lunged for the lid before remembering that Newt was in the middle of a group of Muggles. I couldn't very well show up out of his case in such an area.
"Niffler!" I screamed angrily at the small creature that was now roaming the streets without Newt's knowledge. "How dare you?!"
