Chapter 5: New Hope

The guardians had decided to stop for a while and let the group rest some. They had been traveling for almost a day and were exhausted. The group's numbers had grown since the start of the journey. At first it was just the guardians and the moles. As they got further along though, they discovered several enclaves of dragon refugees. They told the Guardians that after the raid on the Guardians temple that they fled to the catacombs. Their maze-like structure made it perfect for evading Malifor's forces.

There were more dragons then the Guardians could have hoped for. There numbered to be 300 in all, a forth of them being younglings. Though they looked well Terrador and the others knew they had been struggling greatly to get by. So, they offered that the refugees come back to the dragon city with them. It would better provide for them and their families, as well as make the rebuilding of its infrastructure proceed more quickly. While the elder dragons and parents took the time to relax the young ones mingled and played together.

One red and gold male was gazing at a pair of lovely females. He had been watching them from behind when they were traveling. One was dark blue and amethyst, with Ice dragon markings on her forehead and shoulders. The other female was pink and gold, with lovely ruby heart pendent hanging around her neck. The ice dragoness must have said something funny to the pink one, for she started laughing loudly. The sound of her light-hearted laughing pulled at his heartstrings. He was mesmerized by her. Wanting to know more about this girl that was making him so flustered he walked towards her and her friend.

As he drew closer to them they turned their heads in his direction. This made him a bit nervous. Maybe this wasn't such a good idea after all. It was too late to stop now though. They had already seen him so he might as well go through with it. Approaching the two females he gives a small bow before speaking to them.

"Hi there." said the red male enthusiastically.

"Well, hello yourself." replied the ice dragoness.

"I'm Flame." Replied the red male, flexing his wings some as he said this.

"Well, it's a pleasure to meet you Flame. I'm Crystal, but to my friends I'm known as the Ice Queen hehe. This lovely dragon next to me is my best friend Ember."

At the mentioning of her name, Ember smiled timidly at the two of them.

"Hi Flame." Ember said in a voice barely more than a whisper.

"Hello Ember. So, which group did you girls come from?" Flame inquired as he stretched his legs some.

"We were with the group that has concealed deep within the mountains to the east of here." replied

Ember.

"Well that explains why I've never seen you before now. Had I, I'm sure I would have remembered it. For it's not often that I see such breath-taking beauties like yourselves." responded Flame. His gaze drifting between the two girls as he spoke.

"He he he... why thank you Flame." said Ember. Her voice barely more than a whisper as she spoke, her normally fair pink scales flushed a deep red along her cheeks.

"You're quite the smooth charmer Flame, don't you agree Crystal?"

"That you most certainly are. Have you ever been to the dragon city before?" replied Crystal as she smiled at him.

"No, but I here it's massive and that you can get your paws on just about anything from the merchants there." said Flame. As he spread his wings wide open to emphasize his point of the city's size.
