I awoke in the darkness of my mind, my body very cold and stiff. Everything was pitch black. I tried to move my left arm but my body betrayed me and I didn't get a response from either my left or right arm. Something definitely was not right. I have been able to move my entire life! What's happening to me?!

Just when I was about to panic and dream of horrible things that may have happened to me, a female's voice cut through the darkness of my mind. "How is she, Doctor DiAngelo?" the female asked. Wait...Is this woman talking about me? "Nurse Alees, she's stable, and aside from her blood pressure, her vital signs are excellent. Her legs are still strained, so they are being elevated, and her left arm...well...I've never seen a bite this deep. What exactly was she thinking, climbing Mount Caindier? The DragonQueen almost killed Faith!" a male voice responded sharply.

"Her father left her...and me...when she was only four. Now, Faith is seventeen! She's not even paired with her own dragon, and yet she dared to approach the DragonQueen! None of the outsider dragons can recognize her scent or mark! Did she think that if she stole an egg that she would have a dragon?" I heard the panicked voice of my mother, Calynn Adea.

"Calynn, we are doing our best to tend to your daughter. I wish we had more staff, but because half of us from Treven Hospital are in Redbark Village, I am left with just Nurse Hana, Nurse Alees, our surgeon Dr. Pyvi, EMT Gavry Daeson and myself," Doctor DiAngelo said with a firm tone. "Would you like me to wake her up?" Another female voice asked. "No, Nurse Hana, she is already conscious," I heard him reply. "How come she hasn't opened her eyes?" Nurse Alees asked. "Well, Nurse Alees, she-" He was cut off as a bright golden light flashed.

The soft golden light cut through the darkness and I slowly opened my eyes. I heard my mother and the two nurses gasp. I looked around the room and noticed that I was not at home. To my right stood two nurses and an IV fluid stand and to my left stood my mother and the doctor, Doctor DiAngelo. I looked down and noticed that my legs were indeed elevated, however not in casts. "F-Faith, are you a-alright?" my mom stuttered.

I ignored her and analyzed my arms. My right arm was fine, a bit bruised but still usable. My left arm was bandaged around the bicep; however, the bandage shimmered and glowed with a soft golden light...the same golden light that awoke me. I looked at my mother and saw both amazement and shock in her light violet eyes. "Mom, what's wrong?" I asked. She shook her head, and I turned my head to the right, where Dr. DiAngelo was examining my other arm.

"Nurse Alees, let's do another check on her vital signs. We want to make sure she's stable before we continue," he directed one of the nurses. The nurse he chose to check my vital signs looked so familiar that she reminded me of my deceased Aunt Flora. Aunt Flora had brown wavy hair, where Nurse Alees had black curly hair. Both Aunt Flora and Nurse Alees had fair pale skin, and both were about 5'7" tall. Aunt Flora had a heart-shaped tiny birthmark on her right palm and Nurse Alees had one exactly the same except on her left palm.

I looked up at Nurse Alees while she took my blood pressure on my left bicep. "Um...Nurse Alees, are you by any chance related to Flora Delores?" I asked. "We grew up together, but alas, we are not related," Nurse Alees responded and smiled at me. "Doctor, all of her vital signs are normal. Do you want me to remove the bandage on her left bicep?" Nurse Hana asked. Doctor DiAngelo stopped and looked at me.

"If you feel like you're in pain, just shout," He said. I nodded my head and watched as Nurse Hana slowly unwrapped the bandages around my arm. When she got to the final layer, the one that covered my skin, she took out a pair of scissors and carefully cut the bandage. Nurse Hana removed the two pieces of the cloth and gasped. "It's a miracle!" she exclaimed in awe. I stared at my bicep. The once-deep gash from the bite had completely healed with the only sign of its existence four teeth marks, now dark brown scars. Doctor DiAngelo ran to my left side. "Faith, how on Earth did you cure yourself?! You are a Ranger, not a Mage!" he exclaimed. I shook my head. "I don't know. When my eyes were still closed, there was a soft golden light that consumed the darkness and I was able to open my eyes," I explained. Doctor DiAngelo stared at me. "You were given the Dragon's Touch," he said.
