soulmate au where you see the world in black and white until you meet your soulmate.

----

it was lance's first day working at the local bookstore. it was summer, and he needed a job so he had money when he went back to college.

lance spent the whole day shelving and setting up books all around the store. lance loved reading. he himself had come here often to buy and read books, so he knew the place by heart, every genre in its specific area.

the other employees also knew lance, since he always seemed to be there. it was an easy job for lance to pick up, and he already felt welcome on his first day.

he was fixing the mystery shelves when he felt a light tap on his shoulder and something happened.

his world started morphing and molding into something new. his vision became clearer, and his horizons widened.

everyone knew the myths, the stories people told. people say they feel something when they meet their true lover, their soulmate. they say their world is never the same while this person is a part of their life.

the colors flooded through lance's brain. he turned to see a beautiful boy staring at him, wide-eyed like he had just experienced this sensation as well. his eyes looked like no other eyes lance had seen before. this color, was so rich, dark, and pure. it gave lance a warm feeling, like he was being wrapped in a big, warm hug from this boy. his hair was black, a color lance knew already. it was slightly messy and long, though. his skin was pale and blemish-free. his lips were pink, welcoming and slightly opened. lance didn't even know this boy, they were complete strangers. he felt connected to this stranger, but he didn't know why.

"excuse me," the boy said politely. "i was wanting to read a good book, but i don't know what to pick, would you mind helping me out?"

"of course i wouldn't mind," lance replied quickly, setting down the books he was fixing. he motioned for the boy to follow him, heading over to the young adult fantasy section, his personal favorite.

"this is my favorite genre, this book series, the mortal instruments, is really good. start with the city of bones." lance smiled at the boy, handing over the book.

"thank you." he said, walking off to an armchair to read the book. lance smiled. he longed to know more about this boy.

----

lance closed and locked the bookstore doors, grabbing his car keys from his pocket, and began walking to his car.

the boy from earlier was sat on a bench by the doors, seemingly waiting for lance.

"hey," he said. "did you-- did you feel that earlier?"

usually, this would be a super strange conversation. the funny thing was, lance knew exactly what he was talking about.

"yeah, i know what you mean." lance walked over and sat by the boy. "my name's lance."

   "i'm keith."

silence stayed in the air until keith grabbed the collar of lance's shirt, pulling their lips together.

lance felt they matched perfectly, like pieces of a puzzle finally connecting. the kiss sent jolts of electricity down lance's spine. he wound his hands around keith's waist and held tight as the pair kissed for a few seconds longer.

they parted lips, backing their heads away to stare into each other's eyes, studying every part of the other's face.

lance placed his palm on keith's jaw, feeling down to the base of his neck, gently pulling him in to kiss his lips once more.

lance parted his lips from keith's.

   "i can finally see colors."
