day 9 of the 12 days of fluff! this is keith's pov of the part i posted for day 8.

soulmate au where you see the world in black and white until you meet your soulmate.

----

keith loved to read. anytime he wasn't at school, he could be found at the bookstore or library.

he didn't know that today at the bookstore would be different. no one would ever be prepared for something like this.

keith walked through the large doors and a gust of chilly autumn wind blew his hair to the side when he stepped in. the store was almost deserted, there were a few people scattered about. he made his way to the back of the store.

his eyes darted from shelf to shelf, scanning for a good book he hadn't read yet.

something was happening. he felt a flutter in his chest, something ignite within him. his sight flashed white and then went back, but something was flooding in. the way he saw, it was being completely changed. his life had a new added dimension.

he turned around, to see a boy with silky hair and beautiful dark skin. it looked like he worked at the bookstore, he was setting up books. keith decided to go talk to him.

as he got closer, his sight altered even more. something was changing, and keith liked it.

keith tapped the boy on the shoulder. he turned, and at that moment, his life began again.

their eyes met, seconds felt like hours. this boys eyes were a color keith had never known. then he noticed everything else looked different too.

"excuse me," keith said slowly, slightly shaky. "i was wanting to read a good book, but i don't know what to pick, would you mind helping me out?"

"of course i wouldn't mind," the boy said, smiling and keith, and showing him to a section he hadn't ventured far into, young adult fantasy.

the boy picked up a fairly large book. "this is my favorite genre, this book series, the mortal instruments, is really good. start with the city of bones." he handed it over to keith with a smile.

"thank you." keith said, and walked to an armchair. he opened the book with care, and started to read. he got lost in the story from the first sentence.

----

a booming voice rang through the bookstore. "the store closes in five minutes." keith shut his book, finished with the story. he loved it.

he walked back to the shelf it came from, setting it down, also making a mental note to come back and read the second book the next day.

keith walked out, and decided to do something crazy. he was going to wait for the boy he'd met earlier.

keith couldn't just leave this alone, he desperately wanted to know if this boy felt the same thing he did.

he knew the stories. people who met the love of their life said something physically changed with their vision the moment they met their soulmate. it was said to be indescribable. keith didn't know for sure what happened, but he wanted to figure it out if he had the chance.

he sat on the bench by the door.

he may have met his soulmate today.

----

after an hour of waiting, the boy was the last one out. he locked the doors and started to walk to the parking lot until he caught sight of keith.

"hey," keith said. "did you-- did you feel that earlier?"

keith felt weird asking this. he was worried that maybe it was just him. the boy waited a second before answering.

"yeah, i know what you mean." he walked over and sat by keith. "my name's lance."

"i'm keith."

silence stayed in the air until keith knew what he wanted. he grabbed the collar of lance's shirt, pulling their lips together.

keith matches their lips, and he felt like finally he was doing something right. the kiss felt like jolts of electricity flowing through his body, butterflies bolting around his stomach. lance put his hands around keith's waist.

they parted lips, backing their heads away to stare into each other's eyes, studying every part of the other's face.

lance placed his palm on keith's jaw, feeling down to the base of his neck, gently pulling him in to kiss his lips once more.

lance parted his lips from keith's.

"i can finally see colors."
