Like most things in this world, junk food in moderation will not hurt you. However, consuming too much over a long period of time can lead to a variety of health issues which could be fatal. Dealing/ overcoming an addiction to junk food can seem like a mammoth task if you're an addict, however there are ways to eat healthier and ditch the junk food.
1. Write down which junk foods you eat the most and why you feel so compelled to eat them. This can help you understand what type of addiction you have, what foods you gravitate towards and what foods you should try and avoid.
2. Do some research! Find out what eating too much junk food can do to your body, and the health risks that follow. This should put you off eating too much junk food.
3. Make a lifestyle change. Dieting will usually end in failure and it's not healthy living. Replace your junk food with healthy balanced meals, made up of fruits/vegetables, carbohydrates like pasta or rice, some protein (whether that be meat, pulses, eggs etc), and a small amount of dairy. An unhealthy snack like a chocolate bar is fine as a treat maybe once a week, but not everyday.
To make sure that you keep up your healthy living, write a food plan so you know exactly what you're going to eat each day. Remove all the foods in your house which you think will tempt you into either binge-eating or going back to eating junk food.
Stop drinking soda/ fizzy drinks in copious amounts, because you can be eating the healthiest in the world and still be getting too much sugar from carbonated drinks such as Coca Cola. Try water, juices, tea etc.
4. Find healthy snacks that you enjoy and take them around with you in your bag. Find food you enjoy eating because it will make the transition between eating junk food to eating healthy food much easier.
It may seem like a huge task, but overtime things will become easier and you'll enjoy eating healthier and the effects it will have on your body and your energy.
