The new year had just passed. Phil and I had filmed a New Years video with our puppy- which we had named Toby. I was super behind on editing it- seeing as it was already the third. I could almost predict what the comments would say when the fans found out Phil got me a dog. But we were happy! Me, Phil, Toby. My perfect family.
However, Phil and Toby where out of the flat for the day today. Toby needed his vaccinations. Phil asked if I wanted to come- but I really needed to edit this video. The closest veterinarian was on the other side of London, so they would be gone for hours. I sat with my glass of ribena in front of the computer, editing in several Shiba Inu memes as Phil and I held up Toby. I couldn't help but smile at Phil's adorable face.
That was when I got the text. From my mum. She always texted first, in case Phil and I were busy with filming or in a meeting. But I never expected this text.
Mum Daniel. Call me when you can. This is important.
It's about your father.

My heart dropped. The room seemed to grow dark around me as I stared at my screen. I had to call her. What if he broke out? Was he dead? Had he found her? I sat, feeling my heart rate increase before I dialed the number.
The ringing echoed through my head like a film in slow motion. She answered quickly. "Daniel- thank god!" She was crying. I could hear her voice shaking. "Mum? Are- are you..." I questioned, my heart growing heavy with dread. "I'm fine, sweetie, I just wanted to make sure you were alright." She sighed shakily. I furrowed my eyebrows. "Y-yeah I'm okay.." I stammered, hesitating to ask the question on my mind. I closed my eyes, listening to my mums breathing. Something was scaring her. I clenched my jaw. No. someone was scaring her. And I knew just who it was. "Mum- y-you said this was about my father?" I breathed out finally. "Yes." She whispered. My stomach twisted. "He's out." She stated coldly. "What?" I immediately jumped to my feet, nearly dropping my glass, "they released him?" This couldn't be happening. "Yes," she sobbed, "just yesterday." But it was. "That's impossible!" I said, trying to stay calm, "he's supposed to be locked up for nearly 3 more years!" My mother let out a sob. I clamped my mouth shut. I knew she was scared out of her mind and I wasn't helping. I took a slow breath. "Has he contacted you?" I asked nervously. There was a pause. "Yes." "Did he threaten you?" Tears welled in my eyes. "Y-yes." She said, her voice frowning small. My heart froze. "Did he come to your house?" I asked, terrified. "No." I let out a sigh of relief. She had moved several times since my father was arrested. I hoped he couldn't track her. "Okay- I'm coming over to the house, mum. Don't be afraid. He can't touch you. Phil and I will leave as soon as we can." I said, trying to comfort her. "Thank you, Daniel." She whispered. "I love you, mum." "I love you too."
