A/N

Here comes the longest chapter yet... At just over seven thousand words! That's twice my normal length. I hadn't planned on it being this long, and I hadn't planned on most of this taking place, but those characters were insistent! Edward and Bella are about to meet, so I won't hold them up any longer. They'd be very angry with me!

Enjoy this extra-long chapter!

Lying beside you, here in the dark

Feeling your heart beat with mine

Softly you whisper, you're so sincere

How could our love be so blind

We sailed on together

We drifted apart

And here you are by my side

So now I come to you, with open arms

Nothing to hide, believe what I say

So here I am with open arms

Hoping you'll see what your love means to me

Open arms

Living without you, living alone

This empty house seems so cold

Wanting to hold you, wanting you near

How much I wanted you home

But now that you've come back

Turned night into day

I need you to stay.

Open Arms ~ Journey

***

Those two weeks between booking a flight into Seattle and waking up on the morning of my flight were the longest of my entire life. I spoke to Edward daily, but it wasn't enough. I felt a continuous lurch in my lower stomach every time I thought of him, and found myself thinking more of the face I'd known him by as a teenager when I was supposed to be working. This didn't please Jane, needless go say.

Finally, my alarm went off, and I hauled myself out of bed at the unholy hour of two am, ready to get my ass to the airport on time, two whole fucking hours before my flight. God, I was ready to die. Blurry-eyed and yawning, I stumbled down the stairs and made myself a very strong mug of coffee, which I tipped down my throat. Caffeine. My best friend.

I shot off a text to Alice and Jacob when I reached the airport, reminding them that I'd gone - like they didn't know. I'd been going on about it since I'd booked the flight, and was repeatedly seeing my friends exchanging significant looks about it. They pissed me the fuck off sometimes.

By the time I was seated on the plane, I was ready to pull my laptop out and get some work done. I wasn't planning on doing any work whilst in Seattle, and therefore needed to get ahead. But, just my luck, the plane was delayed for forty minutes, and we weren't allowed to use electronic stuff. What a load of shit, I thought miserably as I tapped on the armrest of my chair, much to the irritation of the old dude beside me. A cranky, horny-looking old dude, who's breath stank of beer. It was sickening.

When I finally found myself in the Seattle airport, I was dead on my feet. I headed into the bathroom to use the ladies while I waited for the luggage to be loaded onto the conveyer-belt, as let out a small groan of despair as I caught my reflection in the grubby mirror above the white porcelain sink. I had deep purple bags under my eyes, which were lined slightly, both due to being so tired. I looked haggard and paler than usual, and my hair... Ugh. It was hopeless.
