His icy stare could shape fear within anyone's heart. It was pools of rich blue with no emotion, no empathy for anything. Though, no one could seem to stay away. It was as if there was a constant pull that lured everyone in, not that he was welcoming of it.
Cadence Dane was Timberland high's mystery boy. The one that kept to himself and all of his built up secrets. Sitting in the corner of every class and simply observing. His peers wanted to know- what was his story?
"You know, I wouldn't stare at him for too long. Could end up in a puddle", My best friend, Analise warned.
"Oh i'm sure. You say that about every guy."
"Well, i'm pretty darn sure it would happen with this one", I rolled my eyes at this. This girl has every guy falling at her feet but yet she's afraid to talk to any of them.
"Alright Ana, that's enough."
"Ah, speaking of the devil!", I raised an eyebrow before turning in the direction she was looking.
There he was in all his glory. He was tall and muscular- both complementing his god-like facial features. His hair was short in a rich brown color that only allowed for a few strands to stray across his forehead.
His head was kept down slightly, enough to catch the glimpses of those he walked past. I'm sure he wondered what it was people wanted from him. They were always watching his every move and talking about every word he spoke, if he even did speak a word for once.
I heard a snicker from my right- "Oh look! They clown has arrived to the party everyone!", how clever. Everyone started to laugh along with him and his, Jackson Evory's, ignorant statement.
"Jackson stop, get over yourself.", I sneered towards him.
"Goodness, two freaks in a row. How about that guys?", he gave a cheeky smile to his friends.
"Grow up, you're a senior. I'd expect a little more maturity coming from you."
"Whatever, loser.", He bit at me before walking past me- making sure to bump my shoulder.
I don't know what it was that made me want to stand up for him. It just seems that someone needs to, if he isn't going to do it for himself.
Looking towards Cadence I noticed his curious gaze on me. I offered a small smile to him before grabbing Annalise's wrist and dragging her with me to our next class.
I heard her let out a breath, "That was brave. How did you manage to speak to Jackson like that?"
"Unlike you, I don't care what guys like that think of me. They are nothing but smeared gum on a steaming road.", I spit out towards her before taking my seat at the back of the class and her at the front.
Soon the door swung open to reveal a certain boy whom I just risked my quiet reputation for. When I looked at him I saw him tense as he locked eyes with me. With hesitation he took the seat next to me- there were only two seats in the back. I don't know why he was so weirded out by sitting next to me, i've always sat here.
I heard him clear his throat, "Thank you."
I jumped slightly and shot my head towards him making him look my way as well.
"Is this actually happening? Did you actually just speak to me? Wow. And it was a 'thank you', those are some good first words. Nice choice.", I patted him on the back twice before quickly taking my hand back like I had just touched fire. "I- i'm so sorry. That was an accident."
Leave it up to me to embarrass myself.
I saw his lip curve into a slight smirk before speaking once again, "Relax. I'm not going to eat you.", his voice was raspy like he hadn't talked in ages. It quite attractive if you asked me.
I awkwardly laughed in response. "It was no problem, you didn't deserve what Jackson said. He doesn't even know you. Though, I ruined reputation for you. People are going to start expecting comebacks from me now."
He chuckled at that one, leaving the conversation at that.
