I scooted to the corner and put my knees to my chest. It was a dumb effort to try to stay warm, but that wasn't all I was doing it for. I did it so I could imagine it as another body. Another body hugging me. Making me feel like life really wasn't as bad as it really was, but I know that can and will never happen. My life is meant for me to suffer. No happiness, no hope, and no love.
My cêpan made this happen. She broke Loric code by helping the Mogs. I have a legacy, but I'm too scared to use it. I felt a ball of anger grow in my chest. The air around me grew hot and then I pushed down my anger. If I let it take control again my legacy would activate. I can't have that again. Last time that happened, I was beaten. The air around me slowly got cooler as I calmed down.
Then, I heard steps against the cold stone floor come from outside my room. When the figure came to my cell door, I looked up to see my cêpan, Deralice. Yet again, anger grew inside me. She felt the air grow hotter and gave me a deadly stare. She opened the cell door and held something behind her back.
"What do you want?!" I said in a feisty tone. I got up and moved my hair out of my face.
"Don't use that tone with me!" She yelled at me.
"Why shouldn't I?!" I said gaining confidence. The air began to grow hotter.
"Because I am your cêpan!" she yelled back.
"No, you stopped being my cêpan when you decided to work with them." I said coldly.
"You……" she said like she was holding back. I saw beads of sweat grow on her forehead before she slapped hard on my cheek. I looked at her stunned by her random outburst of anger.
"Follow me." She said like she didn't hit me. I followed her as the hot air did too. Then, I stopped in my tracks as we got out of the dungeon. Before me was a huge training ground. More Mogs than I could count were training. As I ran back up to Deralice I felt eyes staring at me. I accidentally bumped into one and he gave me a glare out of the corner of his eye.
When we reached the middle of the training area all the mogs stopped their training and formed a circle around us. Then, from the left came a huge Mog who looked much more frightening. In front of him was a shirtless man chained on the neck and arms. The Mog seemed to exude power and made me feel like an ant.
" Cucaktor Ra, is this number 1?" Deralice asked sending shock throughout my body. Number 1 was captured! He looked up at me and I saw his crystal blue eyes. How pathetic, you and your cêpan have to work with the Mogs. I pity you. My eyes grew wide as I realized he was talking to me telepathically. Before I got to respond, the leader ,Cucaktor Ra, came up to me with 1 behind him.
"You must be 9" he said looking down at me.
"Yeah, so what." I said growing courage.
"Haha, you speak like that to the leader of the amazing race known as Mogadorians like that! You've been down there for way too long!" he said. Fear set in as I noticed how dumb I was. He was the leader and I didn't even know.
"I'm sorry master," Deralice cut in," I'm very sure she's ready to prove her worth now."
"Very well," he said cutting me a sharp glance," bring the chest." No more than 5 seconds later a Mog came in with a chest. Your chest. You didn't even have to work for it. I began to get very annoyed by 1's little side commentary, so I shot him a glare. Cucaktor Ra gave me my chest. I held it and felt the smoothness of the metal. It wasn't wooden like I though it'd be. It had random designs of Loralite all over it, but in the middle was the Loric symbol for 9. I slowly moved my hand over it and it began to faintly glow. I touched it and it grew even brighter. Then, when I moved my hand it opened. The contents inside weren't very neat, in fact they looked like they were thrown in the chest in a hurry. Which they probably were I thought to myself.
"No! Only get that metal stick!" Deralice said as I was touching everything. I looked at her and was about to say some smart remark, but then I remember my situation. I grabbed the stick and it was surprisingly light. I gripped it tighter since my family had held this too. Shed blood with this, hopefully I will too soon. I closed my eyes as I thought that and then it grew bigger. I opened My eyes to find out it was now a scythe. The bottoms of the hook part was a sapphire blue. It matched me perfectly.
"Now, kill him." Ra said. I looked at him instantly feeling confused. Was I brought here to execute him?
"What do you mean?!" I said starting to panic. I looked at him and he also wore a confused face. You're not with them?! "Oh, please did you expect anything different?" he said as Deralice' s face grew worried.
"Fine, but not with them here. We need to do it privately." I said already divising a plan.
"Fine. Get back to work!" he said with a menacing boom that made me reconsider my plan. We walked towards a big building it was white and had blue lines running through it. I didn't even bother with the odd architecture questions. I had bigger problems.
Once we were inside, they blindfolded me since they didn't trust me. They're one's to talk about trust……
Hey, you've been ignoring me.
Well, duh.
Is that all you have to say? No hi! No nice to meet you!
No shit Sherlock. You thought I was one of them.
Look, sorry. C'mon show me that winner smile.
What?! Look, I forgive you. You don't have to cuddle up with me.
I'm being serious, let me see your beautiful smile.
Why are you saying this?!
Look, I've been here a while. I've been watching you.
Why?! I didn't even know who you were, yet you watched me all this time?!
Well,…… yeah.
You're a creep.
I would explain, but we're kinda being held hostage.
I have a plan, but just roll with it ok?
Yeah, sure.
Then, we were in a room. It was barely lit, smelled like dog, and had numerous cages in the back. Then, I realized they were Chimæra. I looked to 1 and saw that he had a smirk on his face. He winked at me like we were two kid who had a crush on each other. I blushed and looked away.
"Now, kill him." Ra said.
"Do it, Leilana." Deralice said with a sad face. She was hiding something. It hurt me to see her that way. She was still my cêpan, traitor or not. We were bound together. Then, 1's cuffs came off and he jumped and tackled me. A shield appeared around us and he got off of me. I lied there and saw Deralice pull her hand out from behind her. It was a button. She looked at me for a split second pressed it. I heard her in my mind. I'm sorry, I love you. A flash of white erupted from everywhere and I realized what had just happened.
I opened my eyes to ash and rubble. I looked to 1 and he was knocked out the force field around us flickered and then it went out. I looked to 1 and touched his face. He had a scar next to his eye. I touched it and he jolted up. He looked at me and moved my hand. He got up and looked around. Then, he looked down at me and held out his hand at me. I looked at it and hesitated to put my hand on his. He pulled me up and I looked around to see the rubble. Then, as if there was a shield around her too, Deralice' s body was not covered by rubble. I ran to her body and saw her struggling for breathe. I still held the stick in my hand. She pointed to it desperately and I understood. It became a beautiful dagger and I held it an over her heart. I held it there for a while before I toughened up and planted it down. I looked at her eyes and saw the pain run through her, but it was almost immediately replaced by happiness. I closed her eyelids and got up, smearing tears out of my eyes. I'm glad 1 wasn't talking because I wasn't in the mood for socializing.
I looked towards him and saw him pluck something out of the ground. It was my chest. He walked over to me and gave it to me. I looked at him with tears in my eyes and he pulls me in for a hug. I didn't understand him. He seemed so… different. He was kind, but he comes off like he doesn't care. I stayed in his embrace and thought to myself: why me?!
