Prologue

Lucy could only gasp loudly as the spike punctured her stomach. It created an entrance for the red liquid to go out into the world. Lucy slowly grabbed the handle and pulled it out like she would with a band-aid. Her knees felt weak and she slowly fell to the ground. Everything was blurring around her and she felt nothing. No pain. 

Then she heard a familiar voice- the one that she loved to hear.

"Lucy!" Feeling a warm pair of arms catch her fall Lucy relaxed. 

"This is how it is to be a shield for someone." She thought to herself, she didn't want to go. Tears slid down her cheeks and she weakly rested her hand on his cheek. The dust from the debris surrounded the pair and Happy stopped a couple of yards away from them burying his face into Juvia's arms. Gray wrapped his arms around Juvia as she cried softly.

"It's a change isn't it?" She said weakly. Natsu looked at her confused at what the blonde-haired mage was saying. No pain. Nothing.

"I protected you this time..." She slowly felt herself closing in. More tears fell down and this time she wasn't the only one crying. His tears reached her hand and Lucy stroked his cheek smiling up at him. 

"Don't worry Luce! Wendy is coming." Natsu reassured her. Sadly the celestial Mage knew what would happen to herself.  She knew it was far too late for any healing.

"Natsu, I'm sorry..." Natsu looked down and saw her guild mark slowly disappearing. He shook his head refusing to allow anything to happen to her. He couldn't let her die.

"No Lucy I'm not letting you die!" He announced, his grip tightened on her and he continued to allow his tears to fall. He couldn't lose her. 

"It's ok Natsu, I wasn't a burden this time, right? I helped you..." Coughing up blood she smiled weakly. The wound was deep and her blouse was soaked in blood, the pool of blood widened and everything started to blur. 

"No Luce please don't go," Natsu said holding on to her. " I promised..."

Not anymore, she felt pain. The pain of leaving someone she loved. 

"Natsu promises are meant to be broken. I-I lo...." Natsu felt Lucy get colder by the second. Her hand fell from his face and onto the ground. He held onto her tightly, burying his face in her hair. 

The pink guild mark that was on her hand disappeared silently and left no evidence that she was part of any guild at all. 

"Lucy!"
