Chapter 6
^ Another Day at the Beach^
A whole week of school had passed, and I had avoided Vincent through all of it. He still sat with us at lunch though. I'd eat my lunch really fast, then get away from our table as soon as I could. Every time I looked at him, he gave me this smile, that... well.. I hate to say it, but I liked it! With those shiny white pearls that I guess are teeth. And that was what was driving me insane! That I kept liking everything he did!
Clare kept teasing me about it. She just wouldn't believe me that I didn't like him. I don't blame her. I couldn't believe myself either.
Meanwhile, going back to school was really hard. I'm kinda a person that always has to be moving, or doing something. I can't just sit in boring classroom for 7 hours a day. I always do something that ends up annoying the teacher, like clicking my pen or tapping a pencil on the desk like its a drumstick. Eventually, I go kinda nuts.
When the weekend finally came, I was relieved. It was the only time where I could just relax. And in this case, not think about Vincent. Clare and I planned to go surfing with everybody again. The only thing I was afraid was that they'd invite Vincent. Or he'd just show up like last time when I fell off my board.
Saturday morning, I woke up around 10:30 am. I was about to go back to sleep, when my mother walked in.
Everybody says I look a lot like her. Brown, straight, shoulder length hair, and soft, tan skin. The only thing that's different is our eyes. Her's are a gorgeous blue, and mine are plain brown. I wish I had gotten hers instead of my dad's.
"Malarie, you need to wake up." She said sternly.
"Mom, it's a Saturday." I groaned.
"Yes, but I looked in your backpack and you know what it's full of? Assignments you haven't finished. You have to finish them before you go to the beach."
"What?" I said sitting up. "mom! Those assignments aren't due till the end of next week! Well, most of them. Some of them. I have plenty of time to do it!"
"You always say that, sweetheart. And yet I'm always helping you finish a science project at 1:00 in the morning, the day it's due." She said.
"Fine." I groaned.
After she left, I climbed out of bed, walking around my room like a zombie when I hit my head on the mint blue dresser.
"Owwww! Geez!!" I flinched. The day wasn't starting out well.
I groaned, again, and opened up a drawer. I pulled out some short shorts, and a navy blue tank. After getting dressed I pulled my hair into a messy high bun, and started on my makeup.
By the time I was finished getting ready, it was 10:45 am. I walked into our kitchen to eat a quick breakfeast.
I walked in to the smell of bacon sizzling on the stove. There was my dad, wearing his World's Greatest Cook and Dad apron. I have no idea why he was wearing it just to make bacon. Then again, he put it on to make toast.
"Well if it isn't Sleeping Beauty!" He said when I walked in. "I almost had to call Prince Charming to come and wake you up for us." He chuckled at his own cheesy joke.
"Good morning dad" I said kissing his cheek. Then I grabbed a plate for my bacon.
"How was your first week of school?" He asked.
"Uh, ok, I guess. Nothing interesting, really." I replied. He turned of the stove, and set the pan on the counter. I took 2 pieces of bacon and set in aside the buttered toast on my plate, and a bowl of cereal.
