A story about a teen called Melody (Mel for short) who competes regularly at show jumping. She faces challenges, bullies and over protective parents. She will strive to be the top though, no matter what!
BEEP. BEEP. BEEP. "Ugh" I roll over and hit the snooze button. Dad comes in and shakes me, "Honey, wake up! Isn't your jump off today?".
That wakes me up, I get out of bed pull a brush through my hair, braid it, and change into a set of decent clothes. "Breakfast is served!" yells Mum from downstairs. "Coming" I yell as I charge down the stairs two at a time. I walk around to our rather old wooden bench and give mum a kiss on the cheek."Morning mum!" Morning honey" She says as I sit down at the table beside Dad. Mum turns to face me, "Now sweetie, I've booked you in for a manicure at 10.45 and then a hair treatment at 11.55 then at 2.30 we go- " "MUM!" I interrupt, "I've got a jump off and it starts 10.30- sharp! I can't do that today!"
"I thought you wanted to spend more time with me?"
"Not like that!" I huff.
"You can't cancel it?"
"NO!"
"Are you sure?"
"Yes!"
"Humph".
"Ok well thanks for a very encouraging breakfast, but I really have to get going" I give them a kiss on the cheek and can't help but glance at mum, she looks disappointed, like I'm not the daughter she wanted. I rush up to my room pull on my Jodhpurs and throw on my brand new Ariat show shirt.
Waiting out side is Eve, she rushes forwards and engulfs me in an interesting smell of what seems like tuna and leather balm. Oh, and did I forget to mention she lives next door? Which means every morning she comes down to mine and catches a ride on the back of my bike down to the stables. "We're gonna smash them" she cackles as I trundle my bike out of the garage. She hops on behind me and we speed off down the road.
We arrive at the stables in time to see our rival jump on his horse and charge off into the arena. "What the heck is he doing riding her an hour before the jump off!" Eve whispers. "No idea" I mutter, "but he'll tire his horse out before the jump off!" "All the better for us!" Eve crows as she runs to get her horse.
