It was already evening and i was caught up in cooking dinner and thinking about caleb's party. I honestly dont want to go but then i have no other choice. Maybe if i dont go he wouldn't notice? Damn you kahlan,ofcourse he will notice,he invited ou afterall.
All thoughts kept going on my mind till i was done cooking dinner. All the other girls were busy getting ready for the party. Since i have no interest in the party, i just left on my jeans and button up shirt. I quitely sneaked out of the house and went to the backyard. I intend to spend some time there before going to the party, speaking of which i dont even know caleb's house and i know i have to attend even though his intentions to bully me once i get there is very clear.
The house was very noisy when i came back from the garden in the backyard. Everybody was getting ready for the party, i wondered if i should ask one of them for directions but then, everybody hates me so nobody will help.
I sat down in the store room and curled up in my legs. I just have to hang on till i finish my first year and then everything will be over. I will forget about new orleans and i will find a new family somewhere far away.
Just then,the bell rang and that signaled we had a guest. The bell is used to call us all together when there is an important visitor or when the alpha or luna is coming so that got me wondering who was here. I stood up and brushed the dust from my body and made my way to the living room.
Inside the living room almost all the kids were present. There was Bradley our guardian and two other men together with an elderly woman. She looks like she's in her mid 50s or so.
"Okay everyone i'm here to introduce your new house keeper, Mrs Alfred. She will be your new matron and house keeper so i suggest you be of good behaviour. Any questions?" Bradley spoke up.
Everybody was quite and whispering to each other. Our last house keeper left when i was 11 and since then, Bradley has been assuming both the guardian and house keeper roles.
"okay if you don't have any questions i'll leave you to Mrs Alfred's capable hands" he turned and hugged her before he and the other men walked out. As soon as bradley left, everybody continued doing whatever it is he was doing.
"please will someone be a dear and show me to my room?"Mrs Alfred asked. Everyone looked at her and chuckled.
"losing your sight already old lady? I don't even know why they brought you here, we don't need a babysitter and its not as if we can't take care of ourselves right guys?" that was undoubtedly tom. All his dominions shouted "hell yeah!" and i felt sorry for the old lady.
"here Mrs Alfred, i'll show you the way" i said no longer able to hide my sympathy, she looks pale.
"thank you dear". I smiled at her and carried her luggages up the stairs and into the staff quarters. I chose the room at the corner and placed her luugages in it.
"Should i help you unpack Mrs Alfred?"
"no dear, i can handle it and please call me joanna. Whats your name?"
"kahlan" i spoke up.
"thank you kahlan, you are such a good girl and beautifull as well" she complimented.
"Thank you" i said and looked down blushing crimpson.
No one has ever called me beautiful my whole life, like ever.
"okay i'll leave you to rest now Mrs- uhm.. Joanna" i stuttered.
"thank you once again kahlan".
I nodded and left the room, shutting the door behind me. She really seems like a good lady and hopefully we can get along. I smiled at the thought of having another friend.
Downstairs, most of the kids have left already, the time was 7:23 and i can't risk being late and i don't even know where the party is taking place so it will take me some time before i figure it out. One thing i know for sure is that my parents are watching over me.
