Awakened at 3am,
Barely breathing,
Can't figure out why,
Don't want to go back to sleep,
Every time I sleep, I dream,
Fragments are all I recognize,
Ghosts of what I've seen,
Hollow memory, everything fading,
I don't know all I dream about,
Just odd ends that slip out,
Kind of like puzzle pieces,
Leading me to something,
Maybe away from something,
No idea what, where or how,
Often I don't understand myself,
Pictures flash in my mind,
Quite real, like memories I've never had,
Reels of movies, scenes from somewhere,
Seen from somewhere,
Traces of something, like dust in the wind,
Understanding it, seemingly impossible,
Viewing it easier, but hard still,
Watching it but it's fading,
Xanthic tone take over my dreams,
Years of dreams, discoloured, forgotten,
Zigzag pattern formed, but not discovered.
