The black wolf paced, glaring at her with his amber eyes. His breath, coming out in visible puffs as he grunted and snorted. He looked like a caged animal, though upon closer inspection he seemed too methodical. Too determined. Like the beast he was.
“You must speak to me sometime.”
Her whisper froze his massive body. Motionless, he continued glaring at her. He was angry, of that she was sure.
“Mate,” She whispered again, reaching out to caress him, only to jump back at his snarl.
The wolf couldn’t understand why she smelled of another. Why she no longer bore his scent.
Cheat. Liar. Cheat.
He pounced on her, growling, snapping at her. Leaning in he sniffed her again, and again inhaling that irritating peppermint he had smelled earlier. The smell of the human.
Her eyes wide, her body shaking, she looked away from his eyes; submitting to the big wolf. He was crushing her, his massive body too much for her smaller one. A whine caused him to ease a bit, letting her get a few breaths in.
Gently removing her hands from beneath him, she slowly began stroking him, ignoring the warning growl he sent her way. “Tobias,”
He quieted down at his name, and finally shut his eyes. Her voice wrapped around his body like a warm sheet in the cold. She nuzzled his neck and whimpered again.
“Tobias, my Tobias.” She was too sweet. “Don’t be angry with me love.” She sighed as he nuzzled her back, licking her neck.
Peppermint.
Snarling, he jumped back and changed, standing in front of her in his naked glory. “Bitch!” He shouted, throwing a nearby chair.
Mariska twitched, her natural instincts begging her to run. She lay still however, wondering how to calm her angry mate.
She had followed him to their room where he had spent the last hour staying away from her, ignoring his natural instinct to mate.
“Tobias-”
He turned amber eyes toward her, no longer their natural grey. “You stink of him again!” Barring his teeth again, he advanced toward her. “Tell me why I shouldn’t snap your neck.”
Mariska, still avoiding his eyes, slowly moved to stand. “He hasn’t transformed Tobias, he was in pain.”
He was disgusted. “So you chose to comfort him is that correct?”
She nodded her head. “It is my instinct.”
Throwing their dresser to the floor, he swore. “To hell with your instincts!”
Staying quiet was her best bet. Submitting to him even better. But the anger he felt toward her still hurt, and it was hard not to voice it. “Mate-”
“Don’t you utter that word when you stink of him.” He had to get rid of the boy. Dispose of him violently. Tear him to bits. Damned Erida and her choice in men.
Her whine had him turning toward her. His one and only. She was so small, so frail. Not at all who he had pictured for a mate. It wasn’t fair to either of them. They were too different. He, a strong Alpha male with a fragile Omega.
