i glanced over to dan. he looked excited to show me the book in his hand, he was practically buzzing.

"so, philly," dan began. philly, how cute. "i have this book. i also have two others. we could read them together," he said. "if you want, of course," he added.

"that would be wonderful, thank you," i said politely.

so two hours later we were spread out on the floor, reading together. kind of like a book... gathering? meeting? i'm not sure what to call it. i had enjoyed it though. it was lovely.

i knew it would be a good idea to approach daniel. i've got books now, what else could i possibly want?
a boyfriend, a voice in the back of my head whispers.

"shut up," i said aloud.

daniel looked over at me with a questioning face. "are you alright, philip?"

i quickly snapped out of it. "hmm? oh yes i'm fine, don't worry," i said in a hurry.

"okay," daniel said slowly. "when do you have to return home?" he asked me.

"i can stay as long as i'd like," i said.

"what about your parents?" daniel asked me.

"hardly ever home," i said with a sad tone.

"you're always welcome here, philip. i'm your friend now," daniel said to me.

"thank you, daniel, i really appreciate it," i smiled at him, daring to look him in the eye. he looked me in the eye as
well, blushing.

i took a risk. i reached my hand toward his, gently brushing it. he turned his hand over, and took mine. i blushed more. we were holding hands.

my hands are cold, his warm. his were soft and lovely, they fit perfectly in mine.

maybe books aren't the only thing i need in my life.
