His driving wasn’t terrible, it was the car; that spluttered and made him gulp with each stall they had. During this both talked in between each jolt when she’d fly forward against the dashboard.
“I love this car”
“Love can be deceiving”
He laughed and looked at her for a little to long.
“Do you want to stop at this Blockbuster, maybe watch a movie?” He gestured to the store they passed slowly and she nodded.
They parked the car on the side of the road, walking the short distance to the Blockbuster while running under a under pass. Each of them looked at each other before going under and there wasn’t a question that they were going to run.
It was surprisingly long and it echoed their huffs of breath.
Entering the store, florescent lights shining in their eyes as bolt of thunder cracked in the now darkened sky. It was like it had become day again for those few seconds before the sky returned to darkness.
He wandered along the shelves; she went to the front desk and asked to use the phone behind the counter. A young teenage girl stood behind it cracking gum, she shrugged bring the phone to the front of the counter.
“Mom?”
“Indi, Honey ; Hi”
“I’m going to a friends, wrap up my plate and I’ll eat when I get home”
She laughed and agreed before hanging up.
