The dark finally gave way to the light , as Jeff was up all night thinking about their escape. The group started to stir just as the bright sun rose in the flat land, providing a slight ray of light through the dark damp cave. Jeff seeing the ray of sunshine, knew that the monster that had attacked them was gone, the men began to notice this as well and got very excited. "We are free" they shouted.
"It seems the mutant creature has left us to die".said Jeff
The men began running for the entrance of the cave in a single file line. The first one to exit was Pike, and he was instantly stopped , a large black man about 230 pounds with a bald head and a long white beard stood holding a 50 cal. Sniper rifle . The mans name was Calvin and with out the slightest ( hello) - he demanded all of the men and Elana down to thier knees.
All ten men obeyed very quickly , putting up no resistance. Calvin begans to walk up and down the line of men cursing and spatting at them ,Calvin then stops when he got to Elena. He motions for her to stand up and then says "tie them all together". Elena swiftly obeyed the old man ,she began tying thier hands in front of them running the rope behind each of them to the next, attaching each man to the other.
Jeff now knew he was right , Elena was leading them straight into a trap. He thought about it all night, but decided that Elena was a freind. The men know bound together in a single file line, he knew otherwise.
"Who are you"..Jeff finally found the courage to ask.
"I am Dr. Calvin"..the old man said with confidence. " I will be taking all of you to my lab , my team and I would love to run some test on you and your men". " My assistant Elena here , was paid a great bounty to find your little group and bring all of you back to me alive".
Jeff cursed at the man , then at Elena. Both just smiled , as if they were truly enjoying themselves. Feeling betrayed and deafted , the men kept there stares straight ahead, and walked on through the tall yellow grass. The men walked in the scorching sun , behind elana and in front of calvin. The business end ,of Calvin's fifty caliber rifle shoved deep into Jeff's ribs. Knowing they had no other choice the ten men walked, fearfully toward the enormous grey building. They walked in silence, heads down , hand tied behind thier backs. The ambush by elena was ,just that an ambush.
The enormous iron gate was swung open by two guards. One by one the men entered , each man being searched for weapons or anything that may be of use. The overly tall iron gate closed, as the ten men began to be untied. Jeff and his men were now free of the nylon rope and told to follow Calvin into the building. Pike was directly behind calvin , leading the men into the big building , he noticed a strong odor of death and decay. The Smell was comparable to a land filled on a hot summer day, pike and the men began to cough uncontrollably. The air almost seemed tocix, as the men began to cough uncontrollably bringing them all to thier knees. Using a scarf or hat, and even the shirts off thier backs, they put it over thier mouth and nose. This made it easier to breath, and as jeff looked up all the workers including Elena was wearing black gasmasks.
"Were are we"...Jeff asked calvin
"This is your new home. We are currently standing in the largest government testing facility the United States of amercia. You my freinds are the new test subjects. Here we test on predictor animals, animals with the instinct to kill. We are creating mutant animals that will be capable of killing millions. No more soldiers dieing for this country , these creatures are created to kill and stay alive in nature. What we are simply trying to do is tap in to that killer insticnt and mass produce it , creating the ulitmate wepon of mass destrution. Merely foot soldiers to the art of war". His words were spoken with such passion and determination, that it seemed he really beleived such a creature could be created.
"What do we have to do with your ludicrous operation." Asked pike almost at the same time as Jeff.
"You ten men are merely a bonus, the government would only give me animals to pratice my work on. I have always wanted a human, now i have ten.
Chris the young brave warrior, who gave up all he loved and cared about to join this mission, asked in a very shaky voice; "what are you going to do to us".
With a villianous laugh calvin spoke " I will manipulate your brains through the art hypnosis. You will be indestructible soldiers. My most famous operation is fitting a sequence of steel metal plates precariously through out the human body. Im sure you have noticed the animals running around, those are failed and serve no purpose to to me. But the bear you saw, that chased you into that cave,
He was a raging succes. His heart is covered with two quarter inch steel plates , as are his lungs and the rest of his vital organs. The antlers are bone infused with steel. Their brain tell them to kill, the heart and lungs keep it alive, scientist for ages have built machines, robots- if u will- but i dont want to control the weapon, that puts the blood on my hands. These specimens I have created ,control them selfs and the only thing thier worried about, is staying alive."
"You have found a way to use mankinds aggressiveness against them, said jeff, the man grabs his gun and the beast uses its survival instinct to kill the man, not mention the gun and bullets are usless."
"Yes and now with ten men , I have a great start on creating my army of untouchable soldiers. I may look like a normal man ,but one day ill be the president and all of u will be following your masters orders.
The men knew that Calvin was mentally ill, but sought no way to free themselves.
"May i have a moment to speak to my men in private" Jeff asked sounding sincere. "I need to prepare them for wgats about to happen"
Seeing no harm in it Calvin reluctantly agreed.
The ten men moved back a few paces and huddled up to try and come up with a plan of attack.
Jeff was the only one who spoke; " We have no way out at the moment ,and its to risky to run around here- like a chicken with our heads cut off- seeking an exit. Are only move is to listen to this psychotic maniac and do what he says. Do I have your word as men that u will do exactly what he says, when he says it"?
"Yes" the men spoke in unison.
"But Jeff , what if he tries opperating on us or tries killing us"? Asked Chris in a very boyish non convident voice.
"He wont I will make sure of it, but if we do get seperated you must think of yourself first, survival is key."
With that the men turned and faced the mad scientist. Calvin instructed Elena to take the men to thier cells. The ten brave townsmen who where once fathers , brothers and husbands , now where prisoners of the United states governent.
