The peeks were only about five miles south. As Jeff and Pike led the charge , the courageous townspeople who followed killed creature after creature. All of the men helped kill these beasts , but every time they looked at the top of the peeks ,they only saw more.
" There is to many" said Jeff.."we have to find shelter and come up with a plan". Jeff spoke to his people in such a way that , they trusted him and his ideas.
"My house is just a few mins west of here", responded William Pike."We can go there and make a plan".
As they headed west the men began to notice a difference in the air. Jeff spoke first " is that smoke I see". "I have never seen green smoke before" said one of the warriors. The smoke was creating a fog over the old miner town. "We have to get inside quickly" yelled Pike . All if the men were afraid of the green fog, that was slowly drifting closer to them by the second. "Quickly all in side that cabin" yelled Jeff. All the men ran and huddled up , in the small one room cabin.
"What is that green fog" ..Pike asked Jeff. "Honestly I have no idea , but I would bet the fog and these creatures are connected in some way"said Jeff."Well we must find a way to defeat both of them" Said pike.
All the men in the cabin knew that pike was right. They had to get to the top of those peaks. looking out the window , of the tiny wooden cabin , the men could see the green fog, moving over the roof . "We have to wait out the fog" said Jeff.
All the men began to find a spot to sit or lay down, it didnt look like fog was letting up any time soon. Eating only what they found , in Pikes house and drinking only very little , they started to worry about thier own life's. Many of the mans minds wandered back , to thier family's , some of the men told old stories. As they talked and joked Pike and Jeff, went into the kitchen for privacy. The kitchen was only seperated by a then sheet , but they didn't want to worrie the rest of the men.
Pike pulled out a old wrinkled map , athough he knew the area very well, Jeff did not. "We are here.. Pike pointed to a spot on the map."We need to get over the mountian's peek". The two men talked worked out a plan. They would proceed west , until the peek became much smaller , and then they would climb up and backtrack, until they found what ever was causing this out break. "We do not have the men ,or the ammo to kill hundreds more of these animal" Jeff said worriedly." Fear not my friend I have enough melee weapons for every one. The two men walked back in the living room , to yell the rest of the men , what the plan was. " I have plenty of knifes machetes and bats , that we can use to kill any thing we encounter" said Pike.
After the fog cleared ,the men went out and grabbed as many melee weapons as they could. Beginning on there journey once again , all the men felt confident about the mission. They encountered groups of savage, human eating creatures, and the men took them all down. Most of these men had never been out of Bethlehem Colorado, and most had never killed anything. For those man this mission was hard, but with each kill it got a little easier. They walked briskly, but was still very aware of there surroundings, just as the team reached the lowest peek , they ran into a pack of ravage dogs. These dogs had no eye balls, and there ears and tails had been cut clean off. Now surrounded by men's best friend, the men had to kill , not only to stay alive but to complete the mission. Jeff pulled all ten men in close, standing back to back, in a football like huddle. Staring down thier enemy ,the men waited for these hell hounds to make the first move.
No body moved , the dogs stood thier ground , just as the ten brave warrior's."ATTACK NOW!!!!yelled Jeff. The men each rushed the k9 directly in front of them. Swords and machetes flying in the air , the ten men knew one puncture to the skull would be the end for these mutts. Jeff swung his sword and gashed the dog hind quarter wide open. He heard a whimper ,from the mutt, but knew nothing that disgusting could feel pain. The dog ran around to try and get behind Jeff, but the man was to quick ,as the mange ridding k9 lunged up to ripped out Jeff's throat, he stuck the point of his blade there the dogs skull. "Killing it was not the hard part" ...said jeff" it's getting your weapon back that's the kicker". Jeff had thrusted downward so hard, that the blade came out the bottom of the dogs jaw.
All the men, now had thier weapons back ,and were still in one piece. The warriors began to climb up to the peek. Although this was the smallest and lowest peek, it was no easy task. Younger men had to stop and help the older men ,up the almost completely vertical terrain. Pike and Jeff knew that, while climbing up the peek, there was no threat of being attacked. The animals just could not climb such a vertical surfaces.
Once on top of the peek , the men took time to look around, they could see for miles. "What in the hell is that." Pike pointed to a building , that must have been fifteen Miles away. The building was in a square , a very large square , it easily took up 10 acres by its self . Around the outside of the building, was a chain linked fence, that appeared to have barbwire on top. Inside that fence ,was anther one the exact same. "Idk but they sure don't want any body getting in" said Jeff. "Or mabey they don't want something getting out".Pike commented with a bit of sarcasm.
"That is where we have to go"said a young men from the back of the group. The men began to descend down the peek, and towards the questionable building. They knew as they slowly worked thier way down, that they would be safe from a attack. As the men got closer to the level ground , they could see something waiting for them . This monster would be the biggest and most deadly creature , that they had encountered yet.
