chapter two — glad you came

____________________________

The sun goes down, the stars come out. And all that counts is here and now. My universe will never be the same; I'm glad you came.

Jack groaned as he put his head in his hands for probably the thousandth time that week. His cheeks were red and Emma let out a giggle as she noticed his ears start to turn pink too. He just could not seem to get what happened out of his head.

It all happened too late. He had gone home, his heart racing and replayed the moment in his head. Elsa. He had probably just bumped into the future Queen of Arendelle. "Ridiculous" He thought as he brainstormed ways to keep himself sane.

He jumped up, brushing a hand through his brown hair as he took a leather sack for his belongings such as food, water and a tattered old book he liked to read.

"Ma, Em, I'm off. I'll be back at a reasonable time, promise." He announced as he jumped out of the door, wanting to be alone to think.

There was always just one place where he liked to stay. It was serene, quiet and perfect.  Jack continued moving about and came to the fir trees far behind his house. The wind was blowing hard, and it whistled and roared through the branches, high up in the tops. Jack stood still and listened. When it stopped somewhat he bound to the other side of the thin forest.

The meadow was lit by the fiery glow of the sunlight; the shadows of tree branches marked the ground, the sight always made Jack calm down. He lied down, his hands leisurely resting behind his head as he began to doze off, the sound of the winds lulling him to sleep.

Elsa sighed as she sat on the floor – she had the same dream again – with heart beating out of her chest. Her cheeks were unbelievably warm which contrasted to the coldness of her fingertips. He could not have remembered her, could he?

She clutched at her chest as she remembered that night in the dark halls within the palace where she grasped his warm hand in her frozen ones and he did not flinch, nor did he complain. Ever since that night long ago no one else has ever been like that to her. The possible suitors her father told her to meet always disliked her, for them there was only a thin line between the woman and the crown.

Once every now and then there would be someone that caught her attention but they always ended up discarding her like a rag doll. It was always so hard to trust. She just wanted to find someone who didn't end up yelling and sprinting the second she held their hand (and accidentally freezing it).

"Did you forget," She sang to herself as she held onto a lock of her blonde hair, "Did you forget about us?"

"Princess," A loud voice said on the other side of her door, "We need you and Princess Anna to help with the preparations for your debutante ball."

Elsa gasped, the request taking her by surprise, "Oh, well I suppose I should."

She stood up and began to change out of her clothes. Her closet had a beautiful array of colors; blood orange, maroon, magenta and more but she always preferred cool colors like blue or violet.

Elsa glided into the ballroom, her pale skin adorned in a flowing gown that was a gradient of blue and violet; it sparkled when she turned a certain way. Her hair was tied up in an elegant twist and her blue eyes are accented by the small brushes of foundation and cosmetics she put on.

Anna stared at her sister in awe, not having seen her in forever. She opens her mouth to start talking and chattering, a usual thing from her but Elsa exhales tiredly and Anna succumbs, her confidence leaving her as they decide on the details of the ball.
